Thanks dwonh. Does anyone else have an opinion maybe regarding Nema 23 for the Y axis on MM2 maybe.by hdp160 - General
OK the more holding torque the better I believe? The best that I can initially find have the following specification ... Step Angle: 1.8 degree Voltage: 3.06VDC Current: 1.7A/phase Resistance: 1.Ohm/phase Inductance: 3.2mH/phase Holding torque: 0.52N.m (convby hdp160 - General
Wow 1400W that's a beefy heater! I think the one in my cooker oven in the kitchen is about that size. That may turn out as a forge not a printer if the thermostat / couple were to go rogue.by hdp160 - General
If you were to use conventional incandescent bulbs to produce the heat/light you would be able to pop a web cam in there and see from a far what's happening. ( at least when they are on?). I'm want the printer in the garage away from the house, and I don't want to go outside in the winter to check Etc.by hdp160 - General
Good points. Just to be clear I think the the creamy coloured building insulation panels like Kingspan, Celotex Etc. are made of polyisocyanurate foam not polystyrene (which can be inflamable if not treated and also has a very low melting point.) So would go for Polyisocyanurate.by hdp160 - General
Thanks The more I think about this the more I'm convinced that there is not a problem. I've taken the files directly off MendelMax2 so what could possible go wrong I think I'll go ahead with the cheapest quote.by hdp160 - General Mendel Topics
Yes I guess your both right, and ovens are of course insulated as well. Now all you have to do is find an old "CLEAN" oven free from fat and grease. Just let me know where to find one.by hdp160 - General
I'm having a bit of a problem getting the laser cut parts cut. One of the better local laser cut companies has asked for dimensions to go with the .dxf files. I have told them that they are 1:1 scale, and they are prepared to cut on that basis, but they say if the parts are wrong it is my responsibility. This has raised doubt in me. Ideally I'm looking for all the dimensions BUT I think I couby hdp160 - General Mendel Topics
It would be very straightforward if I knew the dimensions. I've looked everywhere but I've only come up with the drawing files (the .dxf files). In desperation I've used a mates computer and printed (on paper) using "SOLIDWORKS" the parts (using the 1:1 print option) The faceplate I have paper printed measures 340mm wide. Unfortunately I have no way of knowing if this is the correct size.by hdp160 - General
Thanks that sounds like they are on the job. (actually this particular company was recommended by another one who only cut steel.) So what I'm looking for now are some dimensions. Ideas anyone please?by hdp160 - General
A second company has replied to my quotation request this morning and has asked me to include at least one dimension on each .dxf file. (The first company accepted that the .dxf files were 1:1 scale and quoted me on that basis.) Are there dimensions available anywhere please. Or am I missing the obvious?by hdp160 - General
Received the first quotation from a local firm for the 23 laser cut parts. (waiting for 2 others) £64.50 inclusive of tax and collect from their workshop. Front and back plates, top and bottom triangle, Y and Z motor mounts, X vertex and X Carriage, Z base plate, X end idler, X end motor, X idler tensioner, Z lead screw arms, RAMPS and PSU mounts and finally the Y plate. In total 23 parts in thby hdp160 - General
Good idea. The off-cut from the cooker hood carbon filter....... that bit is always thrown away anyway. Would need a printable design for the carbon filter holder as well.by hdp160 - General
Totally agree in hindsight. (Hot air gun probably overkill) This is an idea in the earliest of stages. But maybe an internal radiant bar heater (with thermostat obviously) to speed up the warm-up of the compartment prior to printing especially on a cold day and if the unit were in an unheated garage Etc. I like the idea of utilising the freezer box on a fridge freezer the way you described (fby hdp160 - General
I would guess that insulation works cold and hot. I was thinking of stripping out the plastic lining, replacing with plywood and using the space where the compressor lives as filament storage and location for the heater. Fridges are "air tight" that’s why mould grows inside an unused fridge, so the magnetic door seal would probably work for a positive (internal) pressure inert gas environment.by hdp160 - General
Idea? Use an old cube shaped deep freeze (refrigerator)* with a thermostatically controlled paint stripper heat gun** blowing air in at the bottom. * Excellent thermal insulation. (Ideally with a front opening door (or a glass door***)- not a top loader) ** Thermostat mounted above the printer. *** Point of sale drinks type fridge. + Excellent noise insulation ++ Web cam inside the fridge to seby hdp160 - General
You know sometimes you dont see what is right in front of your eyes! I must have browsed through the MendelMax site to many times and missed this section. Thanks for the heads up saved me a lot of work. (This is why these forums exist.)by hdp160 - General
Thanks again. Great idea! I will try the free download route first, may take me a couple of days as I'm working away. I hope I don't have to but thanks for the offer. (OK if I PM you to let you know how I get on next week?)by hdp160 - General
Thanks I don't have Alibre I only have the Alibre specific AD_PRT files. I have searched for a couple of days now I'm totally stuck. None of the professional laser cut companies will work with this format. What is needed is somebody (please) with Alibre to convert the files as you suggested.by hdp160 - General
Hi I have the .AD_PRT files for the laser cut parts. Unfortunatly both of my local laser cutting companies only work with .dxf or .dwg format. AD_PRT files only work with Alibre Design, now known as Geomagic Design software does anyone have any ideas please.by hdp160 - General
I'm looking for the full set please. (from metric plate 3/16" = 4.7625mm and 1/8" = 3.175mm) 1x Front Plate 3/16" 1x Back Plate 3/16" 2x Triangle Bottom (1/8" all below) 2x Triangle Top 2x Z Motor Mount 2x X Vertex 2x Z Base Plate 1x X End Idler 1x X End Motor 1x X Idler Tensioner 2x Lead Screw Z Arm 1x X Carriage 1x Y Motor Mount 1x RAMPS Mount 2x PSU Mount I don't think I've missedby hdp160 - Wanted
I'm looking for the MM2 laser cut parts as well ( In the UK). There are a few laser cut firms in my area, I might approach them to see if they can cut me a set. I have absolutly no experiance with this type of work anyone care to hazard a guess how much they would charge? (£-GBp)by hdp160 - General
