Interesting. But wouldn't the steel ball still allow vibrations to transfer up the leadscrew to the printhead? I thought the compression couplers were also intended to reduce vibrations?by cfry999 - Reprappers
Yeah, they have 2 allen screws in them, and I read somewhere that there's no point in using compression couplers to minimize vibrations if the couplers are already fully compressed by the weight of the X carriage. So I'm wondering if anyone has used those screws to take that weight off. Because I've also read that fixing the top of the leadscrews for alignment is a bad idea.by cfry999 - Reprappers
Question about these Z top pillow bearings that came with my new leadscrews. It seems like they're designed to grip the leadscrew at the top to take some of the load off of the compression coupler and stepper motor. Is this correct? Anyone have any experience with this? Does it also cause binding and friction during the z travel?by cfry999 - Reprappers
Thanks! You rock Dust. I finally have a working board. I guess I should be more careful about scratching these things (if that's what the problem was). Cheers.by cfry999 - Reprappers
So I solved the power issue (scratched trace) and the mega is getting power from the 12V PSU. The other issue about the x not working on one mega and the Z not working on the other I still can't figure out. This couldn't be a ramps issue I don't think since the x and Z both work on at least one of the megas. Any ideas? The x moves a tiny bit when the power goes on and must be getting power toby cfry999 - Reprappers
ok, finally found out the problem with this. It was a tiny scratch on the bottom of one of the traces from the 4004 diode. Soldered a pc of wire to the trace and it's finally powering the arduino. One more problem to solve via a different post and hopefully I'll be printing!by cfry999 - Reprappers
Yeah, I have 2 megas, an Arduino and a Funduino. I had all motors working fine with Arduino (still haven't printed anything, just testing stage) and then the stepper driver for the X stopped working. Replaced it with a new driver (that for sure works in the Y axis) and X now doesn't work on Arduino no matter which motors or drivers I use. Tested all motors and they work fine on other axis. Thenby cfry999 - Reprappers
Would it effect the pins on the arduino as well as the driver though? The stepper driver did burn out, but I later swapped to a working driver for the z axis and the pins don't seem to be putting out anything. If it did damage the Arduino pins, I should be able to re-assign them to different pins, no?by cfry999 - Reprappers
Interestingly enough, now the Z slots on the 'Funduino' are doing the same thing. Hmmmnnn.by cfry999 - Reprappers
I replaced the D1 diode (n4004) and am getting 12V on the power terminal, 12V on the pins, but still getting 0V on the diode (see pic). Any ideas on what the next thing for me to test might be? Thanks again for the help!by cfry999 - Reprappers
Thanks for the detailed descriptions Dust! It looks like my 5A fuse is good, but the diode is reading 0. So do you think I should be able to just remove that diode and solder in a new one to solve the problem?by cfry999 - Reprappers
QuoteDust remove all stepper drivers from the board (while off) and try again... if they have died they could be shorting out the board. So I unplugged everything from the ramps except the 12V power supply. It seems that the mega is getting power when plugged via usb, but nothing gets power through the ramps. I've tried it with both my mega 2560's and both get the same result. Is there a way forby cfry999 - Reprappers
i guess that solves that then. Is it possible then that the plugging and unplugging of the thermistors while powered on would ruin something in the ramps board?by cfry999 - Reprappers
Building my first i3 with the Ramps 1.4 and mega 2560. Just solved a stepper driver issue by swapping to a new mega 2560 (previous post). (no idea what the problem was). Anyway, had all motors working smoothly. Then I went and plugged the extruder thermistor and heatbed thermistor in to the T0 and T1 spots on the Ramps board not realizing I had the 12V power supply plugged in at the time. To booby cfry999 - Reprappers
So I swapped out my Arduino Mega 2560 with a cheap 'Funduino' knock off from China and everything works fine now. It's beyond me what it could possibly be. The actual Arduino just doesn't work on the X slot on the Ramps 1.4 board. I noticed that there are a couple of extra header pin slots on the Arduino compared to the knock off. Could this have anything to do with it? I've attached a photo to sby cfry999 - Reprappers
Thanks Dewesa. It was still working after the crash, so maybe that's not it. I'll check the test code you suggested and see about the endstop status. I'm guessing that it's not getting any current to the X motor since I can turn it even though the PSU is plugged in. Normally, when it's plugged in, the motors won't turn. I just don't know how to test that with the multimeter. Would I test the headby cfry999 - Reprappers
Here's a pic of my build in case anyone might be interested in seeing it. It's all wired up and working, except for that damn X driver problem!!! Frame is pretty solid.by cfry999 - Reprappers
Ok, maybe you can help me with this one? Using ramps 1.4 with A4988 drivers from this kit here. Was showing my wife how laser smooth the x axis was operating, and a few hours later... it just stopped working. Y works fine and X now just does nothing (I can move the motor by hand even when it's powered up) Here's what I've tested so far: Plugged the X motor into the Y slot on ramps (X motorby cfry999 - Reprappers
Is it normal for mk2 heatbed to only heat front half? Or is 1/2 not working?by cfry999 - Reprappers
Switching it back to DC I was able to set it back to 12v. I heard 12.2v is better than 12v. So I put it at12.2.by cfry999 - General
You guys are right. I'm on glue. Sorry and thanks!! I have to say that Lulzbot was willing to send me another one. A testament to their great service! Thanks again guys!by cfry999 - General
Yeah I'm measuring from the terminals. Here's a couple pics. Any ideas?by cfry999 - General
Anybody? I did fry a regulator on my mega by accidentally getting the polarity mixed up on an end stop. However, got a new mega 2560 and ramps seems ok. Could something like that have increased the voltage of the PS? Any ideas?by cfry999 - General
I set my new power supply with the adjustment screw a couple of weeks ago to be outputting a perfect 12v. Now it's all of a sudden reading 22ish and the lowest I can turn it is to 21v. Any ideas how this could happen? It's a new 12v 30amp PS from lulzbot. Thanks in advance for any tips!by cfry999 - General
