It now is uploaded, thanks. Yes I had not changed configuration.h to make #define MOTHERBOARD 71. I had thought it was selected by uncommenting my board. So I got repetier host on but my 3 axis are moving and my extruder is not still It does say printer in dry mode untill restart, not sure what that means. Have not got it to heat yet either.by dave584 - General

There is something else wrong.by dave584 - General
I have my board selected in arduino IDE yes. I am thinking the problem may lie with the fact I have changed the boards file which originally came with repetier and replaced it as I expressed in my last message. Do you have the 1284P processor also? Have you altered board file yourself or just left it? thx daveby dave584 - General

Hi Michael, I have been trying to get repetier to upload for a while without luck it gives me error compiling. Here is the text from console. In file included from /Configuration.h:36, from Commands.cpp:22: /pins.h:587:6: error: #error Oops! Make sure you have 'Gen7' selected from the 'Tools -> Boards' menu. I have selected my board and port in the arduino program so the pby dave584 - General
thx 4 your reply, In teacup (which is recommended for gen7 boards) #define STEPS_PER_M_E which is the same steps/mm for E0 I think as I don't have steps/mm in firmware. My point is I have not altered this value from stock and I believe it should 'work' from stock. To be fair I have altered it but it did not work so its impossible to fine tune as the extruder is not working to get the value fineby dave584 - General
Perhaps my firmware is not correctly properly? Bellow is what I have for E, can anyone tell me if this needs altering? Its teacup. #define E_STEP_PIN DIO19 #define E_DIR_PIN DIO18 //#define E_ENABLE_PIN //#define E_INVERT_DIR //#define E_INVERT_ENABLEby dave584 - General
well this is changeable. Now I have started fresh reinstalled and uploaded and compiled and it still has the same issue, last driver does not work. Now the command G1 E10 F20 you sent me does not do the trick either. Any suggestions?by dave584 - General
Thanks andrew, I have learnt some very important points there. Nothing seems to be going smoothly though now I have a problem up uploading to arduino after starting again a fresh. I have gone through the steps and I am sure I have not left any out. It just hangs the usb to ttl bleeps red every 10 seconds. Nothing happens in ardiuno it just hangs not giving an error. Its arduino 1.1 which I haveby dave584 - General
thanks for all the info, yes I mean the motor moves it the wrong way. Is there a way of finding a line in a document? I am using wordpad. What text do I need to alter? #define Y_STEP_PIN DIO27 #define Y_DIR_PIN DIO26 #define Y_MIN_PIN DIO1 //#define Y_MAX_PIN xxxx //#define Y_ENABLE_PIN xxxx //#define Y_INVERT_DIR //#define Y_INVERT_MIN //#define Y_INVERT_MAX //#definby dave584 - General
Is there a command to home in the oposite direction for teacup firmware? Where can a total newbie find out more about altering code and making commands and such its like you guys on here are talking another language.by dave584 - General
the command you gave me made it work! Brilliant. I find it strange though that the software seems to be at fault as the problem occured on one of the 4 drivers. Anyway I will try and start a fresh and report back if I can get it all going.by dave584 - General
I have tried swapping the pololu and found the pololu works if inserted into another slot. So its not the motors, wires, pololu it must be the board? Or perhaps software? I have prevoiusly had all 4 drivers working. I don't know what could have gone wrong. I did try and adjust config for the extruder. It stopped working right at this point as I was altering #define STEPS_PER_M_E. After I changedby dave584 - General
''Or, you could just move a verified motor (X/Y/Z) to the nasty pololu connector and see if it acts right.' I have said no matter which motor connector is connected to this driver I get the same responce. With the motor off I don't seem to get a reading with the volt meter?by dave584 - General
hi MPower, I get around 5.4V for the first 2 pins and around the same for the next 2 pins. I believe the trim pot? is set correctly anyway, the motor does not come on 'properly' when I adjust the trimpot, it just makes more noise.by dave584 - General
**** I had about 15 seconds to measure the voltage after about 20 mins of drumming sounds. This is hard!! Will keep trying till I can get back with a proper responce, thx man!by dave584 - General
sorry for my ignornace/stupidity what exactly to connect the probes to?by dave584 - General
thx for the replys, Yes Spk64 mine is doing the same thing it barly comes on and goes off. The I can't get a reading with the voltmeter as it does not settle long enough to read because its turning on then off. The problem is not with the leads as I have tried all other motor connectors on this driver and none work.. I don't know whats up with it. This is a proper stuggle and now this...by dave584 - General
thx for the reply, I think I must have fried the pololu because the motor still works fine, if I plug the extruder cable into another driver/pololu it does work fine. I am thinking maybe its the driver/pololu thats gone west. How can I test it to be sure its at fault?by dave584 - General
I have a problem with 1 stepper. All others move with pronterface.exe except the extruder. It will make noise and very very small movement when you click extrude. Can anyone suggest anything I am so bad at this.by dave584 - General
For future readers this turned out to be I had misunderstood the instruction and had created an extra folder 'teacup_firmware' rather than renaming the firmware folder 'teacup_firmware' - must match filename 'teacup_firmware.pde' sorry if its obviousby dave584 - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
thanks for the reply. My plans for heated bed top to bottom: borrosilicate glass top, thermal grease, 2mm alu sheet, nichrome attached to bottom of 2mm alu sheet with kapton tape, I 2 layers of alu foil for added heat insulation, 1mm viton rubber sheet insulation, 1mm alu sheet screwed through to the top aluminium sheet to hold it together. In terms of how safe the setup is, with regards toby dave584 - General
I am a little unsure of a few things regarding the nichrome heated bed. Its the electrical side which I am not familiar with, I have used a calculator program to work out what wire I need. I was planning on doing 8 rows of nichrome making my length required 215cm (my build platform is 290mm). According to the calc below I need 18 guage (AWG) 1.016mm at 12 V to get 149C. Current required is 4.07by dave584 - General
I was reading about lift command and people getting good result from using it and was interested. Am I correct in saying it makes Z axis lift up then drop down to the same position? I assume problems with backlash are not an issue as long as the amount of backlash is equal for lifting as lowering back into position?by dave584 - General
Thanks for the information thats very useful.by dave584 - General
hi all, I know with CNC anti backlash nuts are valued. The question is, is there a gain for them here? I am building a mendelmax if it makes a difference.by dave584 - General
Sorry if its been posted before but I could not find the results. I am in the UK. I have heard ultimachine sells the best filament and as a new user its best to get it from them. Can any one recommend any other suppliers preferably, for me, in the UK. I did a quote on ultimachine and the shipping was 65 dollars for 3kg.by dave584 - General
I have heard people recommend borosilicate glass on top of the heat bed. Is there any reason to use it over toughened glass? I just spoke with a supplier and borosilicate is at least 2 times the price of toughened, quoted 50 quid for a 275x300mm (my build area) piece. +15 postage. The supplier told me toughened glass goes up to 300C so this should be suitable also? Another issue I am concerned aby dave584 - General
Sure, I think thats a good suggestion. I would still like to hear what others think about the ultimaker design. Is it the mechanics which gives it great quality prints?by dave584 - General
Hi, I am considering building a custom built reprap like the ultimaker design the rods are in a different combination from the mendel, if you did not know. Firstly is that allowed? or is it like a copyright? I think maybe the way they have the rods is a better design as they have better results from the mendel repraps imo. What do you think?by dave584 - General
