farnell have a decent selection of stepper motors if you can fight through the website to find them. they will probably have teh equivalent of a nema 23/17 on there the specs on the back of my stepper motors (nema 23) that i got from makerbot are: keling KL23H251-25-8B Rated Current: 2.8A, Rated Voltage: 4.17V (in Bipolar Parallel) farnell have a nema 17 motor for £28.34 and a nema 24 motorby SimonHammersley - Reprappers
i may take you up on that soon, just in the process of putting together the electronics atm so got a bit of work to do before i start on the mechanics. im also not sure if i should wait till the designs for mendle are finalised and build one of them yet. will have to wait and seeby SimonHammersley - Reprappers
so far i have bought the gen 3 electronics kits from makerbot or rrrf will let you know on total cost when i have had everything arive so that i can include vat and all shipping/ customs charges with it. as for the cartesian robot i was thinking of making a slight modification and using bike chain and cogs rather than belt as i think that would be a simple change to make and possily easier to fiby SimonHammersley - Reprappers
starting to sound like there is a whole mini reprap comunity around manchesterby SimonHammersley - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
im in a similar situation (and odly enough by the sounds of it a similar location) to hazel. i decided i would put together the electronics first and then coble together the cartesian robot with what ever i could get my hands on and asking nicely for someone to print parts out. what type of pipe was it you were thinking of using? i have a few relatives in various building trades so may be ableby SimonHammersley - Reprappers
hey there looking at the diagram i think what your doing is using the common wires as a voltage source and using the FETS to turn on the ground to coils when you want them to turn on. dont think you will see much on a multimeter when you are testing this way but it should drive a stepper motor. hope this helps simonby SimonHammersley - Controllers
thanks ordered it now anyway, makerbot started selling complete motherboard kits so got one there. thsnks for the advice though. just wait for bits to arrive now and learn to solder surface mount conections, how hard can it be lol. may get something to practise on first lolby SimonHammersley - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
