Hi all, I bought a printrbot simple metal and I am very disappointed with it. I am technically inclined and I still don't have it printing well like others suggest it only takes 1 hour to get great prints. I am looking in the 1,000 - 2,000 dollar range (MakerCrap printers are out (MakerBot)). I would like minimal tweaking out of box, I am buying this just to prototype and not tweak or have as a hby caleb12134 - General
Does anyone have any factual information not based on opinion? Is one more prone to jamming, does one print more materials? Does one give better quality? Thanks!by caleb12134 - General
Hi all, I was wondering what the differences between J-heads, hexagon, and magma extruders? I am buying a prusa kit and need to choose one, I have experience with my printrbot simple metal so I am "experienced" somewhat... I also was wondering if wood is ok, I would guess that wood warps and bends? Why not use metal or acrylic? thank you!by caleb12134 - General
Hi, I want to make my own 3d printer but am very confused on how I can draw it out in cad if I don't have any of the files for parts? Like makerslide? Is makerslide what you use to build the entire structure or just the parts that move (wheels etc)? Also what is the difference between gt2 belts with 20 teeth, 24 teeth, 16 teeth, etc? Lastly is there a drag and drop program that has a list of allby caleb12134 - General
Hi, I am very unsatisfied with current commercial/consumer 3d printers and decided to design one. I was curious as to what the cobblebot 3d printer, and the taz 4 3d printer bodies are made out of (what are those metal bars called and is there a place online to get them cheap in usa?). Secondly, would you say linear v rail makerslide systems with the wheel system is smoother movement, better qualby caleb12134 - General
Ahh I see now, sorry about that haha. Is there a way to fix it? Like any recommended replacement part that would eliminate that issue? Thank youby caleb12134 - General
Hmm, the dremel slides on the z axis maker slide which is moved by a stepper motor with acme threaded rod (tell me if I am wrong ). I am sorry if this seems simple lol, I just don't see what you are talking about. I am looking at pictures of the shapeoko2 and I see a z axis stepper motor, acme threaded rod, and the dremel. I see no reason why I would need to lengthen the y axis side pillars ifby caleb12134 - General
Why would I need to buy longer y axis maker slide to gain height on z axis? Wouldn't I just buy longer z maker slide and a longer ACME threaded rod?by caleb12134 - General
So basically you are saying, that adding longer makerslide, and z threaded rod would work?by caleb12134 - General
Also cozmicray, how does the longer z-axis do "diddly" if I am buying longer maker slide for it???by caleb12134 - General
Hey , the gantry? is that the thing that holds the dremel? is there a picture that labels all parts? so I can be up with terminology ? to WillAdamsby caleb12134 - General
Hi, I own a printrbot simple metal, and saw cnc milling, and of course want to get started in it. I found out about the shapeoko project and want to buy their second gen cnc mill (shapeoko2) but am not sure wether its the best "bang for my buck" if you know what I mean. I need a good, stable, accurate, cnc machine, while still keeping the beginner friendly part? I am willing to spend about 600-80by caleb12134 - CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping

Or is there something else I am missing? I am just looking for an easy solution to just add the removable extruder head (has stepper motor, extruder, gears, and, auto leveling probe to it, which is why I wanted to use printrbot printrboard).by caleb12134 - General
So, could it work plug in play situation with repetier, and a 5 axis control board like smoothie board, or printrboard? and just select the different types of printers, and it would work? as long as you click the down arrow next to the connect button on repetier and select the cnc for cnc and the 3dprinter for the printer? like add the printer as a new one and just made sure you switched to the cby caleb12134 - General
Hi, I just bought a shapeoko 2 cnc machine and also own a printrbot simple metal. The build plate on my metal is so small, and I am going to make a removable 3d printer head to the shapeoko 2 to make larger prints, if I bought another printrboard from printrbot and just plugged the extruder into it and buy an extrudrboard here "http://printrbot.com/shop/printrbot-extrudrboard/" which adds anotheby caleb12134 - General
I bought a longer z axis rod to replace the default one when it comes in the mail, I am also very familiar with the amount of time it takes to setup a machine like this (built a printrbot simple metal and prusa I3), I just wanted to gauge if this was a possible modby caleb12134 - General
Hi, I own a Printrbot simple metal and wanted to get into cnc machining too, so I picked up a shapeoko 2 cnc machine at inventables.com! The thought hit me to make a easily attachable extruder mount so I could 3d print things with my shapeoko (printrbot build area not big at all, maybe even a laser cutter ). I haven't gotten my shapeoko 2 in the mail yet so I don't know for sure how it works.by caleb12134 - General
