Hi osterchrisi The plastic used to make these parts is polyurethane a thermosetting plastic which has a higher heat deflection temperature than ABS (220 degrees), so they should work fine with a heat bed.by foton - Casting and Moldmaking Working Group
Hi mlagana To answer your question about attaching the motor cogs, I find the best solution is to simply use self tapping screws, screwing them directly into the plastic which will hold it tight against the shaft, to illiterate this...by foton - Casting and Moldmaking Working Group
yellobello Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > How good are those parts? Lots of people have build Mendel printers using these parts, myself included and I would be surprised if you felt the need to replace them with printed parts at the end, as the finished product is almost exactly the same, the main draw back is that the assembly takes slightly longer as somby foton - Casting and Moldmaking Working Group
Hi richrap To answer some of your questions.... The mold is made from a product call Vinamold it’s a PVC compound, it’s low cost and reusable which makes it well suited to quite large molds like this one. The Y and X carriage are held down by gravity and the fact that the belts are holding them from underneath, I haven’t yet experienced any real problem with them lifting. So this is what the second stage of the development of this printer looks like, basically been working on improving the overall stability, adding reinforcements to the base, steel to the frame, changing over to polyester resin, all the details and images are on the wiki. There’s also one up on eBay for anyone who might be interested and thanks to everyone who has had their say on theby foton - General

So i´ve been working on trying to improve the strength of the plastic and I think i´m starting to get somewhere it looks a bit like this... This is a carbon fiber reinforced polymer( CFRP ) basically carbon fiber embed in polyester and it´s pretty strong I haven´t got to far with testing it yet but if I had to guess I would say it´s over twice the strength of the polyurethane original and it´by foton - General
Hi It´s a Mendel printer but replicator seems only to have settings for a cupcake and 3 axes simulation so i´m not sure how to set it for a Mendel, I have a stepper motor already connected to the extruder board. I changed the pots on the stepper driver and it did increase the strength but the motor is still only functioning in one direction, shows no response at all trying to move it the otherby foton - Controllers
Hi David Thanks for assistance, I have up dated the firmware on both the boards to the latest available, unfortunately i´m not sure what the stepper driver pots are or where to find the get temp information but here is what the console is reading when i connect up. Hi Yep i´ve tried changing boards and motors around, the motor works when i connect it to another driver board and when i connect a different motor to the dysfunctional board it has the same effect of not working propyl, so it´s not a problem with the motor, looks like something wrong with the board or wiring.by foton - Controllers
Hi I have hooded up a set of tech zone remix electronics to my printer and have them connected up to replicator G, two of the motors are working fine but the other one is very week, not strong enough to do much, I´ve tried changing the power to it as that would seem to be the problem but to no avail and replicator isn´t recognizing the extruder board even after uploading the latest firm ware tby foton - Controllers
Hi James Thanks for the tips always good to get other peoples view, I agree there´s still a lot of areas that need working on but for anyone that´s following events, here´s a quick electronics testing of the x and y axes, thought i´d keep you posted!by foton - General

For sure the stability of the Z axes is a concern and will quite likely need working on but here is a quick test of its stability to date.by foton - General

Ok, i think i have found a solutions to streamling the production and assembly, it looks some thing like this Here´s some of the new stats: Weight Original ---- 3.0 kg aprox Redesigned ---- 2.2 kg aprox Size Original ---- same size as the original Mendel (aprox) Redesigned ---- same size Materials Original --by foton - General
Hi Sebastien What was your design and drawing process, by the way? Dead-reckoning and laying out mendel parts on wood, tracing, and cutting? Also, why did you go with plastic threaded rod? For the aesthetic? My designs developed out of making my first Mendel according to the standard instruction in so doing i notices a few areas where i thought the project needed building upon most notably, acqby foton - General
