Thanks Wade. I've already figured out the CR/LF issue with the Arduino Serial Monitor, but my problem turned out to be something else: The release of Arduino 0018 apparently broke Serial support for Sanguino, but there's a downgrade on the Sanguino website that "fixes" this until the problem has been tracked down. Thus, while I used the prepackaged Makerbot firmware that comes with ReplicatorG,by gkaindl - Reprappers
Hello, I've finished building my Mendel machine, but I have trouble getting the official FiveD firmware to work (I'm using the most recent "official" release from Sourceforge, 20100308). While I can upload the firmware fine through the Arduino IDE, it does not respond to any commands (this is both with the auto-reset jumper in place and without it). For example, I can connect to the firmware, wby gkaindl - Reprappers
Ah, thanks, that makes perfect sense. I'm a bit embarrassed I didn't think of this myself :-) I think I'll change it in my firmware branch then, since they already have proper methods to invert axes - My future goal is to improve the Makerbot firmware a bit, since it has nice features like printing from SD card and updating thermistor tables on-the-fly, but its stepper control is surprisingly unby gkaindl - General Mendel Topics
I've also made my Mendel parts on a Makerbot (in white/natural ABS though) and am using/hacking the Makerbot firmware for the Mendel. You don't need to use Makerbot pulleys just because you want to use their firmware. ReplicatorG configures your RepRap properly from its machine.xml, and I've made the following entry to machines.xml to make it work. I took the values for steps/mm on the axes righby gkaindl - General Mendel Topics
Hello there, I've basically finished building my Mendel (everything complete, extruder works well, but I have not done the final jigging/comissioning/calibration exercise yet), but there's one rather trivial thing I can't seem to find documentation for in the RepRap wiki: Which direction are the axes supposed to move (e.g. which way is "towards lower values", which "towards higher value")?
