Would a piece of paper firmly clamped of a 1/4"thick mdf board do the same? MDf is pretty straight. Or simply a piece of glass?by bf5man - General
I've made some proof of concept for the Zach's concept: "simply print your design on a sheet of paper, attach it to the board you intend to cut, the cut where it indicates on the paper. if you glue it on somehow, then you're set!" I've took the Darwin Y carriage and tried to make it easier to make with a drill press and a saw. I took some liberties on the dimensions however. Tell me any improveby bf5man - Reprappers
Count me in Zach, it's a really good initiative! The same package deal for the steppers would be awesome.by bf5man - General
It's an interesting technique. It's not that far away from The Guy's idea of a UV setting material, here's the exerpt: "Imagine that the first pass of "ink" squirts out a square line that contains a metallic powder. This square blob is immediately hardened by a quick blast of ultraviolet light. Then the EoPlex technology prints a second layer of fluid inside and around the four hardened lines. My two cents, some powder coating paint is UV set too, it might be an option.by bf5man - Polymer Working Group
Powder coating paint is interesting. It's a polyester blend that goes to a semi-liquid phase at 350F approximatly then solidifies into a hard substance (the rigidity is comparable to resin polyester). Since it is intended to be used in thin coats, i've tested it to tell if it was possible to cast larger parts. Yes it is, as you can see on these not so impressive pictures: I don't see praticby bf5man - General
You are right about about abs and acetone. Here's a website i've submitted on the Make blog explaining how to do it: I've made some tests to find if it was possible to extrude abs from a syringe. It's possible, here's a video: and a closeup photo: Some good points: -According to the speed of the needle over the paper, you can change the width of the extrusion. I think you are talking about the Darwin render. They have mentionned a couple of times that they were using SolidEdge as their cad software. As a solid edge user myself, it really looks like a solidedge render. It would be nice to have access to the SEcad files by the way.by bf5man - General
