Hi Many, many years ago, when I was an apprentice, I was given the task of adding serial comms to a couple of CNC PCB driller/routers and to write some interface software in Q BASIC for data loading and retrieval/storage to get away from paper tapeby Spitiemk4 - Developers
Printer 3 now trial assembled and taken up residence on the kitchen table. I have made a few tweaks along the way, blended in some bolted on parts so that they are no longer bolt on, increased the A frame height to achieve a 200mm print height. I am re-jigging the X carriage to allow for the hot end cooling fan, and have tweaked the extruder to get a better fit. I have thrown in some Marlin, Xby Spitiemk4 - Developers
Hi I like the look of it, nice and simple. I hadn’t considered this method on my builds because it would orientate the belts incorrectly for my set up or I would need some sort of bracket arrangement. I assume there is an internal shoulder that holds the bracket in place via the M4 screw? The only question would be how tight is the belt around the screw? Does it introduce any backlash? Hi Franz Just a follow to make things a little clearer Ohms law gives a formula for calculating Voltage, Current and Resistance V= IR We know the voltage = 12v, the resistance will depend on what you buy and from that you can calc the current draw at peak load (which is what you must size your PSU against) a J-head hot end heater is generally a 5.6 ohm resistor, so current(I) = 12/5.6 = 2.14by Spitiemk4 - Developers
Hi Franz I think a 5A PSU may be a little bit too small, I generally use a 30A 12vdc PSU - you can buy them very cheaply on Amazon. See attached I have built three printers now, I have used two of these and an old PC AT PSU that I liberated from an old tower PC - works a treat The main issue is going to be the extruder hot end and the heated bed, these are big current draws when heating up.by Spitiemk4 - Developers
I have set to work on 3d printer no.3 Have printed one side and trial assembled it it’s looking OK, I added some mounts for the arduino - the marlin FW that I have tweaked over the years, won’t compile under the latest IDE - I hate it, very time I rebuild or upgrade, the arduino IDE has had an upgrade (or several) and throws out the old code. I have the latest Marlin FW and have noted all of thby Spitiemk4 - Developers
Hi I remember in the early days with my hand thinking about some kind of 3D printed servo assisted exo-Skeleton affair and maybe something to help with the leg, but after a few internet searches I came across the inmoov hand on the thingiverse, I printed a very rough and ready version on that and lost all thoughts of exo-skeletons etc. and got hooked on printing an inmoov robot. Eventually youby Spitiemk4 - Developers
Finally, I ran out of characters!! I also face the prospect of a full knee replacement in 10-15 years due to the damage done (they did some work involving bone marrow and stem cells to regrow the bone lost in the knee but they say it probably will only last 15 years or so) - my knee took the main leg damage in the accident and I lost part of one side of the joint, that’s why they reset my tibiaby Spitiemk4 - Developers
Hi I am in the UK. I am lucky enough to get private healthcare with my job, so I used that for the accident treatments. There were multiple issues mainly from injury to my spine, when I got to hospital the initial assessment was that I had broken my neck at C6, they were going to ship me off to have surgery on that and as part of that assessment decided I hadn’t broken it. There was damage thatby Spitiemk4 - Developers
I took to making my own printer when laid up following a nasty car accident, I am a controls engineer with a history in CNC and robotics, so it was a fun project. Once I had it assembled and moving, it went on the back burner due to surgery and bones being re-broken and reset in different places - repairs to me following the car accident. So it was probably 18 months before I dusted it off andby Spitiemk4 - Developers
Hi it looks like a Prusa Wades Bowden extruder - see link below to the thingiverse for a printable one. The hot end looks like a J-head - easily available on Amazon as are other versions of extruder Just search J-head hot end and also Prusa extruder and it will give several Metal Bowden extruder. Or try eBay. I have the joy of 2 printers, so I can always print parts if one fails and needs somby Spitiemk4 - Reprappers
