Quotecozmicraydid you get some of these ball screws? Hi, sorry no I didn't order them. Although I am tempted, I'm not sure if I want to build a LISA. I like the concept and would like a delta printer that is strong and sturdy enough for a multi direct extruder and light milling, I'm not sure if this is the way to go. I guess the main problem is that any forces acting on the effector (acceleratioby Dejay - Delta Machines
QuoteA2 On a noisy desktop computer fan I placed an 8 inch flexible aluminum ducting commonly used on clothes dryers. Cut it to the length you need, don't obstruct the end. I just let it drop to the floor, the computer was on top of a desk. I guess this leads the noise away from the source. I thought about using something like this for an "exhaust" with an enclosed printer to lead away potentiby Dejay - General
QuoteRalph.Hilton It should be simple enough to replace the fan with a quieter one. I would err on the cautious side and leave it disconnected from the mains for a few hours before opening it to give any high voltages time to dissipate. Thanks. It's likely to be a 24V fan though, right? Should I simply add a resistor / potentiometer in series to limit the volt/amps the fan will get?by Dejay - General
I was wondering about this too, can anybody suggest a specific cheap Nema23 stepper motor that work well and produce more power on the TI DRV8825 drivers? Like an Nema23 equivalent to the widely used 47 N-cm Wantai 42BYGHW811? Would the Wantai WT57STH115-4204A (425oz-in 4.2A) be good? They cost twice as much though. Would using a 24V power supply with the Pololus also help with more torque? Thaby Dejay - General
I bought a Nunus 24V power supply for 30€ that is actually a Wei Hao S-400-24, so far it looks great although a little big for my kossel mini. My main problem is fan noise. It's not that loud but quite audible from across the room (much louder than my PC fans). What is a simple solution to reduce the noise? It says on the power supply that the fan is actually temperature controlled, but I'd likeby Dejay - General
FYI, Bas today announced the DECAMUX that allows to control 10 stepper motors via two PEPPER penta stepper boards with the Beaglebone Black / BeBoPr. LinuxCNC seems to be limited to 9 stepper motors atm though.by Dejay - Delta Machines
I guess an alternative might be to create a really big 3D printed bearing, similar to these, using delrin ballsby Dejay - Delta Machines
Paddy that's a really interesting idea! I have no clue how a virtual pivot would work and how to realize it though. @Hazer AFAIK extruder meant originally both the hotend (which extrudes the plastic) and the extruder motor. But yes paddy means the hotend. The "problem" with the lisa effector platform (where the hotend is) is that the kinematics work in a way that the arms are attached and rotateby Dejay - Delta Machines
Thank you for the Mr. sungod3k! Btw, is there a measure of the precision for linear motion of VSlot vs other extrusions or makerslide?by Dejay - For Sale
Wow that looks pretty awesome. But 1200€ for a kit.by Dejay - General
Just a small thought, I read somewhere that plastics degrade a bit each time you melt it. So shredding it without melting might be better.by Dejay - General
Maybe something like a big rotating cheese grater? So that it chips away at big chunks and everything that falls through would be small enough.by Dejay - General
QuoteReinhold - tap a M8 thread into the "extrusion center hole" (of one of the 2 short extrusion pieces) Just a quick note on this, probably everyone already knows this but I just found this and it looks mighty practical: There are drills with included tap that seems to work very fast and you can use it with any kind of handheld drill. I've found some rather cheap ball screws on ebay 800mm and 1610 (apparently 10 mm lead), in the range of $60 with free shipping. These have less lead than the high lead screws, but they also have far less friction. Would this work / compensate so that you could use higher RPM on the motor instead of higher lead?by Dejay - Delta Machines
Quotevreihenhttp://coherent-reprap.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/introducing-coherent-extruder-4-color-2.html While I'm sure that you can easily make this work with two Flex3Drive cables,I'm going to challenge you to make it work with one cable and a solenoid for switching cams..... Wow that would be awesome! Of course! A quad extruder with the weight of a bowden setup and only one stepper and a boardby Dejay - General
Thanks for the explanation! I guess I should have looked up the melting temperature of PTFE, it's actually 326°C so of course it should be fine. And I didn't figure that the normal bowden tube is 4mm thick, not 6mm like the lining in the merlin hotend. I think the E3D V6 uses a continuous 4mm bowden tube from extruder to heat break, and use a special coupling to hold the tube in place. I don't kby Dejay - General
Hello Stabbs. Your project is great, but I'm wondering on how it will work and how well? ATM it looks literally like a "black box" Does it use 4 stepper motors? Or 2 stepper motors, one drive and one select? Or a servo to select which filament to drive?by Dejay - Crowdfunding Projects Announcements
This might be a stupid question, but why isn't the PEEK part getting too hot over time? Does PEEK radiate enough heat so that it keeps up with the thermal conductivity? Why doesn't it need active cooling? Also why doesn't the PTFE tube melt if it's in direct connection with the brass part? I guess these are general questions as the J-Head uses the same design, but I'm curious. Another question aby Dejay - General
Hey Aduy, do you have any new updates on your quad extruder design? I also think a drive / selector combo would be the best way forward to save weight and complexity in electronics. I've found the Coherent extruder which looks great, my suggestion was to also switch the connections of the thermistor and heater mechanically at the same time with the filament selection. So you completely switch beby Dejay - General
Thank you Sanjay for the great comparison!by Dejay - General
AFAIK (and I'm a noob) the pololu drv8825 stepper drivers have about 2.5 ampere limits so switching to 24V from 12V allows you to output more watts / energy. Also a faster processor like the beaglebone with a cramps / bebopr shield might give more speed than the 8bit arduino boards, but I'm not really sure if that is relevant for speed.by Dejay - General
Hey Marcossf, that frame looks pretty cool. How is that drylin Q carriage working out? It's pretty expensive on motedis.com, is there cheaper sources for something like that? I'm been thinking about making a modified version of Johann's linear motion carriage with recirculating delrin / acetal spheres, so that it encapsulates a standard extrusion. The spheres would cost about 3$ for 100 and you wby Dejay - CoreXY Machines

Quotelucasmun09 Ok, to clarify what I mean as "I am not going to drive the motors on PWM" was that I am not going to rely it's positioning and it's travel based on the PWM and the timing... First of all, it was an idea i just threw out on how I will change the speed. It seems the most ideal solution here but do you really need to reduce the speed of the motors when you can get very accurate positby Dejay - Reprappers
QuoteCLaNZeR Sorry to say with the MK3 prototype we have now gone for moving bed on the Z-Axis and keep the Scara Arm fixed up in the ait at around 300mm mark. Well that is probably the best way to create more rigidity. I'm really not sure if my rotating tower would work well since you'd probably need some "training wheels" to keep it stable.
