Wurtnase, That was the problem! thank you for the solution. Heating up quickly now and just had it up to 70°C in about 5 minutes (if that). With the ground wire soldered across 2 and 3 the resistance dropped to 1.8Ω with the wires on.
ggherbaz, Thank you for all your help, I greatly appreciate it.
Yet again the reprap forum comes to my rescue!
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Wurstnase,
That makes sense. I thought it was a wire to one or the other not both! I have it wired to 1 and 2 only at the moment. I will rewire tonight and let you know. Fingers crossed.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi ggherbaz,
Thanks for all your help so far. Some more information for you.
I checked the power settings in the Config file and it is already set to 255. I figured out that bed PID is off (which I think is probably best until I sort the problem). I checked the resistance of the Heated bed and I am reading about 2.8Ω without the wires and about 3.1Ω with the wires. Measuring the voltage across

So I fired up the printer again last night and turned on the heated bed. I touched the MOSFET heatsink after the bed had heated up to about 62ºC and it was cold to the touch? I'm going to order some more MOSFETS, replace the one on the board and print a fan mount to improve cooling. Will hopefully solve the problem. Will update when it is done to let you know if it worked.
Thanks again for all t

Thanks for the feedback guys. Really appreciate it. I have a fan running but it is not very powerful so I think I need to get something else hooked up and maybe print a proper fan bracket to hold it in place. The wires should be fine as I have had the bed heating up fine before and the wire is 20A rated automotive cable. I will try insulating under the bed as well but I can't seem to understand w

Hi,
I've got a Prusa i3 and I recently bought a MK2B Aluminium heated bed. It was printing fine and getting to temperature fine but now it can't seem to get up to temperature? I'm Printing PLA and I want my first layer to print at 65°C but it gets to about 62°C and just won't climb any higher? I don't understand what has changed. Has anyone got any clues as to what is going on or how to fix it?

Hi all,
I Have finally got my Prusa i3 Rework up and running. Had a fair bit on this year so it took of a back seat over the summer but it is printing now and I have attached some photos of it. Are people still interested in meeting up and swapping tips and tricks?

Thanks for the swift reply.
I played around with it a little more last night and reset the bed and realised that the x-axis wasn't level with the bed. I'm still unsure how this resulted in the problem above but it was looking good until a repair I had made to the print head failed and I had to abort the print.
With regards to the g-code commands can you just manually enter this in the console o

Printing
Hello all,
I am having some problems with my Prusa i3 printer.
Firstly:
When I set the end stop on the z axis and level the bed using pronterface the first layer is printing about 1.5mm away from the bed. My process for getting the bed level and at the right height is as follows:
Screw all corner fixings on bed down and set the z-axis just above the face of the bed.
Starting in one corner and

Amazing! How far along are you in the build?
I am slowly getting hold of all the components I need to build mine. Today I ordered the gadget 3D ramps 1.4 electronics kit. I can source all the mechanical stuff my self but when it comes to the electronics side of things I'm very much a beginner and this kit seemed to have everything.

Hi All,
Just joined the forum as I am interested in getting into 3D printing and have started putting together a BOM for a Prusa i3.
I currently live in Leamington Spa and was wondering if someone close to me would be willing to show me there set up and talk through some of the challenges they had during the build, commissioning and printing?
Thanks in advance.
