Hello all,
I have been reading through some of the posts regarding fire hazards, and I got quite shocked at what hobby-grade 3d printers are capable of.
I was thinking of installing an Arduino-based safety system by adding two DC-DC relays to the inputs coming from the power supply.
The Arduino would be connected to a smoke detector near the printer, and shut off as soon as smoke is detected.

Safety & Best Practices
Hello all,
I'm starting a multiple part print, printing every part individually, to reduce the losses in case a print pops off the heat bed in the middle of the print.
Just tried a layer by layer print until one of the parts popped off and I could throw away the whole batch.
Anyways, why does Slic3r print the brims on ALL parts, instead of printing a brim before starting each part? Is there a w

Got it working by turning down the Z axis speeds. Apparently the speeds set in Marlin were too much for the steppers to handle. It moves to the build plate fine now. Thanks!

Printing
Hi all,
So I just got my first 3D printer working, and it's printing fine right now for single parts.
However, when I want to print multiple individual parts, as soon as the printer starts the second part, it does not move to Z-home, but starts printing in mid air.
This results in a bunch of filament curling up randomly, wasting my filament and not giving me the desired part.
Anyone who had th

OK I have some progress. When I turn on the heated bed, it's not the LED for the heat bed that turns on (LH, but the LED for the third extruder (LE2).
Could this be a problem in the firmware?
How can I reconfigure Marlin to turn on the right pin?
Edit: problem solved, the firmware apparently did not turn on the right pin. Reprapworld uploaded the wrong firmware on their item page. A working fir

Hello all,
This is my first printer build, ordered the kit from reprapworld.com, and (after a lot of tinkering and tweaking) got everything working except for the heated bed.
I've searched every nook and cranny of the internet and did some research and troubleshooting, but I'd like to have a second opinion about why my HB is not heating.
These are my findings so far:
1. I have measured the larg
