I don't understand it either. When I walked into the CNC community I felt like I was in a room with a bunch of stoic old machinists smoking cigars and, basically, living in the past. Then I saw RepRap and it was now, it was on cutting edge and people were running it on all modern OSes and computers. Why this disparity? Why are the CNC people happy to run on 1985 style equipment, and software,by Dark Alchemist - General
That is why the Arduino is my last choice but I only wish to run on Windows 64 bit. I can on an additive but I can't on a subtractive machine? Rather odd. First day I got Windows 7 (when it was about 2 months old) I Did that and never looked back. First thing I did in Vista was that as well (or basically that as I don't do their controls). Disable UAC too.by Dark Alchemist - General
Well, I asked the CNC guys and the best those archaic people could come back with is to buy an old pc. You know that is just a wrong attitude but it is very prevalent. Eventually your old PCs will die then what? I can see old PCs becoming a commodity, lol. I wish to stay on Windows and ethernet is an option but there has to be something out there that will work that doesn't cost an arm and aby Dark Alchemist - General

As I lay there dead in a heap the Ambulance crew will take my corpse to the hospital but before I am fully loaded on the gurney one EMT will look at my table and say 'Damn, that is one nice print he made before the gas got to him.' Yeah, on my Tombstone you could print that.by Dark Alchemist - General
I have seen a dual head machine on Youtube (CNC and Hot End) where the hot end was done and the CNC took up afterward. Very novel approach so I figure I will ask this in here because I got nowhere with the CNC crowd. What takes the place of Mach3 that will do CNC, and 3d printing? The author of Mach3 retired about 3 years ago and it hasn't kept up with technology. I want a piece of software tby Dark Alchemist - General

Well, just wanted to make it more structurally sound as I wouldn't want a wing to fall off in mid flight.by Dark Alchemist - General
Not taking any sides as I am interested in Nylon myself but if it is melting wouldn't a gas also be released?by Dark Alchemist - General
Oh, nice I hadn't thought about that but for such a big item would 2 per piece that are, say, 1.5-2" round a piece be better or .5 inches of 4-6?by Dark Alchemist - General
Well, I don't know about this thermal welding of plastic only the solvent but if I had a part (say a wing of an airplane model) that is 6 feet across how would I weld it together so everything is as if it were all one piece?by Dark Alchemist - General
Welds make a weaker part, right or is it like welding metal?by Dark Alchemist - General
See, there has to be a way of making it bigger. I suppose you could make a mold with a CNC and inject the bloody thing but limiting a 3d printer to just knick knacks means it doesn't have as much viability as one thinks. What is the biggest size you can go with our limited capabilities right now?by Dark Alchemist - General
For my needs I don't wish to 3d print keychain bobs I need something that can handle bigger items else, for me, it would be nothing but a toy. I get what you are saying but to be really viable as an end product we need something that will do more than knick-knacks and the dimensions I mentioned could handle the one offs, knick-knacks, small items and give the room to make something more valuableby Dark Alchemist - General
Every reprap I have seen pre made seems so wimpy and so bloody small too. Now get a 900mmX900mmX203mm then we are talking about something that could handle just about anything.by Dark Alchemist - General

Well, try the really fine screen and the larger sized hole one and see which is better. The problem is no matter what getting a perfectly flat bottom will be near impossible if it is warping.by Dark Alchemist - General
You are rafting? I hate rafting but sometime it is inevitable. Wonder how rafting and the perfboard or possibly mesh screen with larger than window screen sized holes so it will slightly belt into the holes to grab? What about Kapton tape?by Dark Alchemist - General
