That's the problem with importing filament from China. When you get a bad batch, it costs more to ship it back. So you're stuck with it. You should've just ate the cost instead of pawning it off on unsuspecting clients. But, that's what you get with this kind of people. You're a true capitalist Danny.

I did buy a used laptop from a friend of mine who didn't want it anymore. I think that's a little different from buying a pallet of laptops from China and retailing them. But I do resent a Chinese junk shop, that makes no effort to post designs for the open source community, floating it out there, in the general section, touting themselves as a US supplier.

Oh, and I'd be quiet about being from Ohio. It would be the first state that I would vote out of the union, and I've driven through Canada more than once to avoid passing through Ohio.....

Ha, that's good. The moon landing was a great accomplishment, coming up on the 45'th anniversary. Neil Armstrong, the first human being to set foot on an extraterrestrial body, was from where? That's right bitches, OHIO. But ultimately there's a reason we never went back. It's just a bunch of rocks and dirt. There's nothing up there worth the trip.

I am acitvely trying to use and make less money. Your ideas about capatilism and communism are lost on me man (I'm a minimalist). The intent of the project vs. the goal of the project aren't lost on me, but there is a tipping point at which using more and more 3d printed parts becomes counterproductive. So let's throw the book away and come up with some new design guidelines. I recommend #1 shoul

There is a great historical parallel for the RepRap project; Alchemy. A group of really smart guys got together some 500 years ago or so, and decided they were going to make lead into gold. Is it possible to make lead into gold? The short answer is no. But alchemy did have some great byproducts; a greater exploration of chemistry as a whole and a little guy called Sir Isaac Newton. So, it all kin

I agree 100% . What makes a product thrive is quality and cost. Not self replication. You can't make it ubiquitous and self replicating. The two concepts are mutually exclusive.
Basically, the concept of the reprap project should be minimalism, not self replication.

Spider breath. Not sure what that smells like, but I'm guessing something akin to molten PLA. Or maybe just stop eating all those spiders? Cool stuff Mark.

I was thinking about heat exchange, as I frequently do, and I was wondering why we need electricity routed into a hot end. Can't we just move heat into a hot end through antifreeze? The whole heater block can be transplanted away form the hot end. We can route hot antifreeze through a heat exchanger, which would melt the plastic. The heater block can regulate the temperature of the antifreeze, wh

I'll post a couple excel files once I get my tests done. That's the last thing I really wanted to accomplish. Seems like independent developers are held up to higher scrutiny than the big names. Anyway I'm gonna cease developement and production for a year or so. Maybe go back into construction or general machining. There's too many snake oil salesman out there like prusa and his $100 POS. but this celebrated sloppiness in engineering ("it works, so what?")
That's a mischaracterization of the disease. My designs are far more advanced than most and certainly not sloppy. What's lacking is the ability to communicate them effectively. It has nothing to do with engineering. In fact I crave social interaction with like minded people, but the well here is pretty dry.

My ideas and philosophy on the concept of rapid prototyping are the result of a condition known as ASD (autism spectrum disorder) comonly known as asperger's syndrome. This is not an excuse for my posting of nonsensical content on this site and I have no excuse for it. I sincerely apologize for any offensive material that I have communicated to member's of the RepRap community. This includes: Jos

I propose that the word "double u" be banned and replaced with "double v." Anyone caught using the word "double u" should be fined $177 and sentenced to three months community service. I have contacted secretary general ban ki moon and president obama to make it happen and I encourage all members of the english speeking world to do the same.

Meg: So jack, are you gonna tell me bout your tesla coil?
Jack: You said you didn't wanna hear about it.
Meg: Ya I know, but that was a while ago.
Jack: Well I don't know if I wanna talk about it.
Meg: Come on Jack, you draged it all the way down here in your little red
wagon. Come on, just tell me about it.
Jack: Well I built it based on the invention of Nikola Tesla's original designs.

What's really lacking from the reprap project is scientific data. There are so many projects out there that claim major advances in rapid prototyping, but there is NO scientific data. NO actual information. It's one thing to post a product's design. It's another to understand and proselytize the product's limitations. Let's get some charts and graphs. Actual information, raw data on the gear we a

No Sir. This is a solder joint like you would make with a soldering iron and solder. Only, instead of using a soldering iron, you use a filament extruder:

Interesting video, but it's apples and oranges. We're not trying to print solder. We're trying to make a simple solder joint through a mechanism established by 3d printer extuders.

I'm not familiar with past attempts to extrude solder. Has there been any progress in this arena? I assume it's has something to do with the viscosity of solder vs. plastic?
by

Well obviously the same rules of soldering would apply. You could rest the nozzle on the parts you want to solder to preheat them before extruding the solder.
