I want a 3mm 3dpen. I have about 20 rolls of filament in 3mm abs and I want a pen for touchup work. I cant find one anywhere. Every time I search for one I get 3mm sticks to refill a pen, but I cant find the pen they go in. Anyone know of one?by makovai - Reprappers
I will add my 2 cents for what ever its worth. I had a curling problem so bad early on that i almost quit printing. it was so frustrating. Thin parts of a couple inches in diameter and it was guaranteed to curl. I still have that problem once in a while but I have a few tricks to help out. 1. if you are designing your own prints you can taper the outside walls. I did this using a reverse taper. tby makovai - Reprappers
I have made hundreds of prints with my I3x from DIY. I went through some serious growing pains at first, but mine is now the most reliable appliance in my house. Have you tried adjusting the trim pots on the step sticks? Or even swapping them out to see if the problem moves with the stepstick. Have you tried slowing down the speed at which the axis travel? Im by no means an expert, but I hadby makovai - Reprappers
I had a similar problem once and it turned to be the step stick. It was working but every so many layers my y axis would just shift and i would get a nice set of stairs up the walls. It was just one of those weird things where it was working but then would stall for a bit. Put a different stick in and never saw the problem again. Just my 2 centsby makovai - Reprappers
I had a similar problem a while back. I dont know if this is your answer but it turned out for me, I had to slow my motors down. In slicer I went to the Start G-code page and added the line M203 Z3.5 and never had the problem again. I beleive I started with Z4.0 and it was better so i just slowed it until things started sizing correctly. good luck M203 - Set maximum feedrate that your machineby makovai - Reprappers

Each machine must be different, i had completely the same problem but bass ackwards. I couldn't extrude for anything with my wades and j head and now i run the wades and buda style and i haven't had an issue since. These machines are possessed i think.by makovai - Reprappers
Funny you say that, cause other than building parts for my printer i really haven't found a good use for them.by makovai - Reprappers
I shot a couple of vids to show what 3d printing does for peeps that dont understand. If a picture is worth a 1000 words than video is worth 10000. 2 minute vid 3 minute vidby makovai - Reprappers
I got tired of trying to explain 3d printing so i made a couple of timeline videos. A picture really is worth 1000 words. 2 minute video 3 minute videoby makovai - Look what I made!
I'm pretty sure mine is a copy of the Budaschnozzle but i liked it so much i bought a spare. Got it in an auction i won for $55 shipped. Pretty good deal i thought. I also found the exact components i needed and orded them from digi-key. They were the only ones i could find that would let me order less than 250 pieces. Thanks againby makovai - Reprappers
That was extremely helpful. I didnt even know what i had, other than what the ebay add said. Now i have all the specs for both ther power resistor and the thermistor. Thank you guys.by makovai - Reprappers
So I bought this killer hotend a while back and I absolutely love it. The heating element died in it so I started researching it and I cant figure out what is in there. ? watts ? k ohms resistance What other specs??? wire wound? ceramic coated? Same with the thermistor. What is it? I run a Sang 1.3a board. can anyone help me out?by makovai - Reprappers
I had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad heater. I swapped out heaters and have never had the problem since. BTW this happened when my build was new as well.by makovai - Reprappers
I have been printing for a while now and all of a sudden I have a situation i just cant seem to figure out. Curling, or massive strees in my parts. I have two scenerio's of which neither are acceptable. I get solid tight layers on the part, but cant get it to stick to the table, or I use ABS glue and it nice adheasion to the table but the stress breaks my layers apart. I know this is a temperatby makovai - Reprappers
I cant get my extruder to extrude at all. Starts out great and then gets stuck and the hobbed bolt just wears a big groove in it. I tore it a part and I found like black un melted shavings inside my white filament. Wish I had a better macro mode on my phone but this what I found inside my hot end. BTW....I have never owned black filament.by makovai - Reprappers
Well i'm not 100% positive but I talked to my electronics teacher tonight and he said when a stepper motor gets older it loses its torque and higher feed rates are not obtainable anymore. I change the M203 in the entry code to Z3.8 and it seems to be doing a lot better. (thanks for the idea jbernardis and uncle bob) I ordered more steppers so hopefully I just have worn out motors. So I came home and disconnected the entire z axis leadscrews and clamped the z axis to the top of the printer. The motors growl with nothing hooked to them. (In rapid only) I then tried cranking the stepstick prox switch and it did seem like it lightened up the growl but then I crank it so high the motors wouldn't move at all, they just buzzed. I have a Sang board, I think I will start changinby makovai - Reprappers
I tore that axis apart twice. It is amazingly free moving and screws very easily. I put an indicator on the axis and when i jog it, it travels right on the money. I really, really believe this is an electrical or software issue and not mechanical. But ive seen stranger things in my day. Im open to anything at this point. However i will say the first time i tore it apart one of the z axis motorby makovai - Reprappers
I have pretty much ruled out the step stick. I cranked the current up to where they got really hot when they were on, and same thing. It has somthing to do with the speed. Although the speed doesn't make sense as this is a new problem and i have been printing at this speed for months.by makovai - Reprappers
I have a I3X, which is a cheaper version of the I3. I have made over 50 really nice prints. Anyway when my Z axis rapids it grinds. This is a new problem, and just started yesterday. when I jog the axis (with a settings/options z axis of 200) in pronterface Z move nice and quiet. If I kick that setting up to 300, they growl and I can actually see one stepper stop spinning. But its not always theby makovai - Reprappers
I've watch all that pretty close. The most logical would be flow rate from the extruder. I run many different colors of filament so unless they are all bad i doubt its that. The flow of my hotend would possibly answer a few other small issues i have. I will definatley want to check that.by makovai - Reprappers
My prusa, for the mot part prints pretty well. But I get high spots on my fills and when the machine rapids over the top of them it has knocked it out of alignment and scrapped my print. I really would like to find a setting in slic3r that makes it lift the z on all rapids (is there one?), but the ultimate fix would be to get rid of these blobs or dingleberries as I like to call them. No. I love making logo's. I used to have access to lasers and would make stuff like this for fun. I thought 3d printing might work well for logo's, but im finding its not as ez as with a laser. I'm considering modifying my printer components into a cnc router.by makovai - Look what I made!
Im still learning how to run this contraption, after spending two months trying to build it. So far so good. I'm a little disapointed in the finish but the shapes are coming out.by makovai - Look what I made!
I finally have my I3x kit built and working correctly. But the actual process of printing im still very green. I was just wondering if you guys could comment on what your process is for a few of my questions? Right or wrong, i just want to know what you do that works for you. The heat bed: When do you turn it on and for how long. Mine only seems to work manually. Extruder: Have you ever ran outby makovai - Reprappers
This Website is really nice but I have to figure out the correct data to try it. When I get home tonight I am going to focus pretty hard on getting my Z travels figured out. Even if 1mm isnt enough to get an accurate test, its still enough to tell me its definately off. later that evening: So I ran a z axis test and over 10mm it goes about .25" which coincidently is the same percentage that a 5by makovai - Reprappers
I Started my build of an I3X about 2 months ago, its been quite a chore but it all is starting to come together. The only issue I'm having is my Z axis is not calibrated correctly. I stuck an indicator on it and when I move (in pronterface) 1mm it only moves .023" which is just over half what it should move. My part sized right on the money in the X and y axis but it was supposed to be 1/4" thickby makovai - Reprappers
Sorry for bringing back an old post but I'm new. I bought some nice T5 12t aluminum pulleys for my I3X but have no way (nor no how) to change the firmware. I checked the travel on my printer and with an indicator on it when I jog the 1 on the machine my x and y axis travel about .042" and my z (stock) only moves .023". so obviously my parts will not be scaled correctly.
