I'm trying to tune my Wades geared nema 17 extruder. If it goes too fast it grinds the hell out of the filament and it goes downhill from there, but then I was thinking... I can push the filament with my hand through and it can go much faster, the big difference between my fingers and the M8 bolt with teeth in it? My fingers form around the filament, and the pressure helps grip it instead of helpby Anthong Redbeard - General
glad you found that page, but also not that what firmware you put on your board has an impact on how you wire it.by Anthong Redbeard - General
Yes I'm in Woodstock, North of Atlanta. Guess I'll just start Printing Mendel parts... I'll probably try out a list of things on it like all the alternate brackets, wobble arresters etc.by Anthong Redbeard - General
hi all, I am good to go on my McWire printer + Wades geared NEMA17 extruder. I definitely want to build a reprap printer with it but I've been getting lost in all of the options. I want to take my time with it, build the best one I can, and give it all the bells and whistles + some. hoping to start with the best of breed that exists and is least likely to be quickly abandoned. I've been noticby Anthong Redbeard - General
about the .25 mm extruder.... I have a .3mm extruder I'm using with black ABS and it extrudes at more like .5mm I hear that the color adds some width to it.by Anthong Redbeard - General
I know it's been a week since this post, but I went through this recently so hopefully I can still help. I extrude at around 230 degrees, everyone is a little different based on how accurate your thermistor is, if it's insulated etc. if you are getting ooze and it only works well when you push the filament through you are probably stripping the filament and without you pushing it through it hasby Anthong Redbeard - General
Just thought I'd add a note here since it was fairly recent and I have similar issues. I know with the same extruder controller and wiring I get different results on the reprap firmware than Makerbot. Reprap firmware (after modifying configuration.h) ran the motor very smooth and let me do a wide range of speeds. ReplicatorG is a much better experience all around but the stepper motor runs choppyby Anthong Redbeard - General
Hi Kurtis, I think you problem could fall into 1 of 2 categories: 1. File Permissions, setup through security 2. File Locks, programs locking the control of a file. I like to use process monitor to test these types of things, you can filter by the file and find out what's holding it. you can also set the permissions on the whole folder and folders it's trying to write to something ridiculouslby Anthong Redbeard - General
Hi, I'm so glad this forum is here and worked for my previous issues or else I might be freaking out right now. I can;t wait till I'm on the answering/contributing side of this exchange. my setup = mcwire + techzone electronics + august Mendel software. I have 2 issues. 1 = After successfully calibrating the movements on my system, I went to do a test print and it would always run out of boundsby Anthong Redbeard - General
just as a follow up and conclusion: I just had to modify the configuration.h for the firmware for my stuff... about 314 for all axis scales AND in the host software have to tell it to slow down on feedratesby Anthong Redbeard - General
I'm on latest Mendel Firmware, I'm so excited to here that I was doing something wrong! Woohoo can't wait to mess with the formware now thanks a lot!by Anthong Redbeard - General
Hi, I have built a McWire repstrap (won't defend that choice) and I have techzone electronics / NEMA 23 steppers connected. I have what I think is my last remaining hurdle... when I tell the host software to step 19mm I only get about 3. I've been messing with the preferences a lot and looking around. I found a few people who did the mcwire build said to set x/y scales at 400steps or 200 steps/mby Anthong Redbeard - General
Just as a follow up, once I used the normal mendel extruder firmware instead of the one found on the wiki that said it was for the techzone board, it all worked.by Anthong Redbeard - General
I tested my thermistor, it seems good, when I turn on the heat I see the resistence lowering gradually on the multimeter. I'm convinced I just need to try out some different firmware.by Anthong Redbeard - General
nophead, thanks for your reply... I follow a lot of your stuff. It's not exactly in free air, the makerbot thermistor has a clear coating around the end, it's a tear drop shape. it's actually in contact with the nozzle as best as I could get it with such a tiny nozzle, now I'm understanding why people do the bighead thing. maybe I should try and angle it so the tip points inward more? I'm goingby Anthong Redbeard - General
I also have an issue with the temperature not registering. I'll post again if I figure it out. I put my issue on a little page with a pic of the extruder here: if anyone has a suggestion it would be much appreciated. It's painful to be this close to done. thanks.by Anthong Redbeard - General
I've been building my repstrap for a while, loving every bit of it, adding my touches as I go. I've been fanatically reading everything I can about hobby 3d printers. I ran across the Red Blue CNC and loved it. It got me wondering about some new confiugrations of the machines, I loved the way this one could work below its own surface. I imagine a cnc that has powered wheels, can sense it's plaby Anthong Redbeard - General
