I am interested how the media picks it up futher. I hope they publicize the complete lack of any gun here(presumably) as well as the initial reaction..by Jasper1984 - General
I think 50 micron might be the minimum step height. Like my printer has 1/(400half-steps/revolution x 5 revolutions/cm) = 5μm. Of course that is pointlessly low(not that having it higher is pointful) and possibly not in the range of accuracy of the threads themselves. 50μm might decrease the ridges at the cost of much slower printing, but isnt useful much otherwise if your nozzle size is larger tby Jasper1984 - General
this story has some pictures.(oh the other one too..) If you recognize it, try find the designs.. > Lengthy prison sentences for possessing a firearm will help police tackle the potential new "phenomenon" of 3D guns, Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy told Sky News. Yeah, like they'd want to give the dumb kid that made some parts for a gun a lengthy prison sentence. Beby Jasper1984 - General

I dont get it, having a shop doesnt have to hurt other goals at all. I mean it can turn people into 'just business' people, but it rather far from has to.. And 'shops' is also a way of 'replication' of the reprap, it doesnt have to be people printing the parts for new people and getting the vitamins to make a second printer for a friend. And i dont really care about the self-replicating part, jby Jasper1984 - General
To be honest though i dont want to mess around with loose towels hanging around.. Maybe a system to roll it out and it rolls back up automatically? Been wanting similar for quick wire management. I suppose a elastic that rolls up as wire rolls out would work..by Jasper1984 - General
Oh, i am sure the spring is useful for many things.. But i dont want to buy things new, to take apart for parts.. unless second hand/scrap anyway.by Jasper1984 - Reprappers
Cool, afaict but printed with straw with mycellium spores somehow. Not very particular in how? And art aside, if it is actually made strong enough for use by the fungus, we'd prefer if it didnt grow its shroomsby Jasper1984 - General
> You're also gaining (and quite possibly building off) the ideas of everyone else in the community who has released them for free. Many people would think that should be payment enough. Maybe if you have a business that already earns you a living. You cant eat that. I dont think it is desirable to have it as a wholly 'next to income source' affair. @Kalle: earlier you talked about the 'me',by Jasper1984 - General
To be honest, i think for most users, the volume is too small to own a recycling machine. I think hackerspaces might be a good place to have them. I'd basically donate the stuff, most of it should be fairly pure already..(But i basically have little idea how good the scraps need to be in order to yield good filament)by Jasper1984 - General
Neat, cross off another vitamin. Dont be scared to source files, or tell us how it worked out using it. Maybe it would be more flexible with 1) fewer arms 2) fanning out.(like the openscad.. note that linear extrude with twist sometimes gives issues)by Jasper1984 - Look what I made!
Dont really see a need for that, i use the stock tensioner on the Y and this thing, its not perfect as the screw sticks out and i have had it get stuck on wires that were overly sticking out.(not during prints though) Putting it on the carriage-side it would have to be upside down, i suppose since it doesnt need to be acessed much anyway, that'd be a good solution.(I think a best-of-both worlds dby Jasper1984 - Reprappers
> They have a trademark prohibiting clones under the Arduino name, which is in effect pretty similar to an open hardware licence with NC clause. I dont understand how you can say this. Not being able to use the name 'arduino' in no way makes it more difficult to use their open designs. All it means you cant use the name arduino and their trademark without their permission. It prevents peopleby Jasper1984 - General
> Previous-generation Arduinos are not obsolete, either. Dunno, whats keeping the Uno for being depreciated in favor of the Leonardo? The Arduino Tre they mention. I hope they make those small computers 'stateless' except for the SD card.(well the Tre has a second arduino firmware apparently. Sounds neat.) Hmm apparently no-one has an idea.. Maybe if it is 'off' the value internally is zero, and the value below it triggers it to turn on. The -14 temperature is presumably wrong! Maybe that is just too far off. Are you using the right thermistor or thermistor table? (FTR: my bed gives an incorrect reading too, says it is 7.7C, and my hot end 22C)by Jasper1984 - Reprappers
The holes go all the way through. If you look at the picture in the first post, the idea is to run wires through the sides and then down into the pair of holes below and are twisted together behind the block. The pfte tube goes between all that and it pushed into the acorn nut. I might actually make that block a pair of blocks, and connect the two with screws. The block further away would pushby Jasper1984 - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
You cant make a reprap out of plastic either, you work around that. Obviously the same goes for a gun. I dont want to give any of the idiots who would make a gun this information, but i dont want 'naivity' to be the defense of 3d printers either. Trying to restrict it is a violation of peoples rights. Making stuff is a big part of being human, and access to this should not be taken away becauseby Jasper1984 - General
I suggest we make this thread about the more futuristic future, and this one about more specific things that actually fit now. > The real battleground is going to be in the intellectual property, not the Marxian physical "means of production". Copyright protections, software and hardware patents, trademarked designs... But thats the same thing by other means. I still dont quite know the natuby Jasper1984 - General
I have seen the reprap community having many small shops as potentially a bit inefficient, and makes people potential worry about their own future sales, and perhaps has oppertunity cost as each shop has its own set of stuff.(instead one bigger set of stuff) (and even if they dont people might anticipate that in them) Your solution sounds a bit like starting a sort of over-arching cooperative. Fby Jasper1984 - General
This is how i thought to use a chuck to drill those holes in the sides: I might put the acorn end at a bit of an angle so the drill isnt at an angle at the location the side hole has to go. Also, note that the pfte is going to creep, but i dont think that will end up being a problem that defeats this approach. This might take a while before i try it, havent even figured out where to get the stby Jasper1984 - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
> A Danish company, Create it REAL, which makes 3-D printers, says it might have another possible solution. Do you have to turn on the bed manually because it waits forever otherwise? Likely you need to increase the bed PID `P` value of the bed, M304 P,(and M301 for hot end) M503 prints the settings and M500 saves them into eeprom.(otherwise the settings are gone after reset) It should just go to the temperature you indicate. Btw even though just starting it does work fine for me, i do often manuallyby Jasper1984 - Reprappers
Note, the sticking to the bed only prevents warping when it mechanically able to do it.(I have always used PLA so far, so not that much experience with warping.by Jasper1984 - Reprappers
> p.s. The amount of each material squeezed out very little This line confuses me, is it extruding? If it doesnt attach to the heated bed, go through the heated bed paces; ensure it is clean, ensure it is level and the initial nozzle height is correct.by Jasper1984 - Reprappers
The openscad you provided is good. `if(1)` isnt needed; putting an asterisk `*` before a statement makes it disappear. Also unlike in nor'regular'mal programming, global variables can be okey here, anyway, because anyway:r=10; module e2() { circle(2*r); } module e1() { circle(r); translate([0,2*r]); e2(); } e1(r=20); //the radius in `e1` is 20, but in `e2` it is 10, you basically have to passby Jasper1984 - General
Hmm i missed an option! Basically take a shape out, which you later insert, and the pipe holds it in. Edit: picture is has the main part upside down as opposed how it is supposed to print, updated the scad.by Jasper1984 - General
Well the obvious thing is just to use the support material feature of your slicer? It just needs a little, Otherwise to make it more printable you can: 1) Flatten the top and hope it stills fits, then bridging can do its work. Of course a requirement to this is that bridging works well. (It will have to fit more tightly.(rain pipes, not seal-critical? Either way, maybe plumbers tape might be abby Jasper1984 - General
Some posible causes: Bed height not calibrated well: The distance from the bed has to be the same, wherever the hot end is. It also has to be close enough for the plastic to stick well. Warping a bit, any sign of detaching off the bed? One way to avoid warping is to make sure it is stuck to the bed. If you're printing on glass, window/glass cleaner or acetone can help if it is dirty. Overextrusioby Jasper1984 - Reprappers
