Quotespota Well the only ways i know of to reduce Copper 2+ to elementary copper is eitjer by electrolysis or by deposition on a less noble metal, as zinc, iron etc. deposition usually results in an uneven porous surface that won't conduct well. As for ascorbic acid, or any reducing agent, you will most likely only be able to reduce Copper sulfate only to its Copper 1+ form, just a different saltby KalleP - Plastic Extruder Working Group

It would seem to assist with the goal of 3D printing motors. Perhaps not compact iron core motors but possibly linear motors or larger pancake type stepper motors or even higherspeed variants of the brushless 'DC' motor we find on RC gear. Regardsby KalleP - Wire and Thread Embedded Extrusion
The design that was proposed by richrap seems to be of a nice size and reloadable with quick assembly or loading but has little else to recommend for the small scale user or independant filament respooler. It is certainly suitable for the large producers as it will nest somewhat and is suitable for injection moulding with a much simpler mould than a one piece bobbin requires. QuoteVDX ... it would work, if you manage to focus all beams in one spot - then you'll add up all the power I had to build an justage-stage for ring-focus-lasers ... here they combined 80 diodes with 20 Watts power each to a 'single' 1600 Watt-laser Viktor Is this the sort of product you were involved with?by KalleP - Laser Cutter Working Group
QuoteTraumflug QuoteKallePPerhaps there is a bit of lull in the evolution of hardware at the moment while a whole flock of commercial desktop machines come onto the emarket. Commercial developments become more commercial, that's true. This will undoubtly make the number of self-built printers smaller. Best of luck with your interface. I do hope you get it going as it is a valuable add-on for new entrants to the hobby. For future expansion I could even suggest you support any other commercial desktop printers that may use a RAMPS/Atmel/Arduino platform. Can there be any reason why a patent fiend would want to get uptight about a dust cabinet that you build around your printer. I mean if there is no attempt at temperature control it cannot possibly be there for maintaining temperature. So it should be a perfectly safe thing to sell as an addon to a printer.by KalleP - General

I had a look at my crude picture and thought, well that's sloppy, someone should tell him that those tabs are going to be a problem to insert and hold position repeatably. The tabs should be positively secured so that the filament cannot slip between the core and the side. See new attached picture for an upgrade. The only drawback with this is that the two parts kind of need to be different maby KalleP - Printing
All quiet here for a bit. I am very much in favour of reducing waste. This will impact on the material choice. Cardstock or plastic are the most likely candidates. Wood and metal have merit as well. I am not all together in favour of fibrous materials because they will cause dust and more importantly will store moisture thaat will require a lot of descicant to remove from the shipping contaiby KalleP - Printing

The following idea is published under the LRC licence, it is free for all personal use and no longer patentable (unless it was patented before). Wet Sock This idea would make it possible to use a lot simpler mixes as they are constrained while they set slowly and with maximum strength. It will also allow the use of low cement mixes in some applications.by KalleP - General
I think that in the medium term it would make sense to slowly think about how RepRap.org / Reprap Foundation could run a Bounty program and any money not claimed will be used to fund other community suggested ideas that do not have specific bounty offers yet. It would keep the money in house and make people respect the intellectual property more because it it paid for.by KalleP - Bounties

Cool projects, a motor is a fairly mature device and requires the maintenance of decent tolerances to operate efficiently. It should be cheaper to purchase standard motors (stepper/brush/brushless) for quite a while . However I expect that certain niche uses for actuators that are not available in consumer products will become a good application for printed motors. I'm following this with antiby KalleP - General

There is no hidden mystery. All likely options have been explored. It depends on what the designer is familiar with or what they think will fill the goals for the minimum effort or cost. The basic choice is should the extruder shake, should the model shake or should they both shake. If building large items then having only the extruder shake is a good plan especially with a Bowden extruder.by KalleP - General
