Could you do us a favor and take some good pictures of what the new parts look like? especially side shots and in the holes. Curious how well they removed the support material, and what settings where used. God I wish you had some extra parts, I would ask you to cut one of the vertexes in half so we could check out their infill .by spacexula - General
It's sad, all the Mendels I have printed and I have no PLA ..... Wanted the 3 sets of PLA bushings needed for a Prusa Mendel. Willing to pay, trade bearings (I have lots of those), or ABS printed parts.by spacexula - Wanted
Ed, Ian (Ian owner of Bits from bytes), both work there. Can't think of anyone else up for sell who has RepRap dev folks.by spacexula - General
gogogo, that is the hardest part to print on Makerbot period. Grok's advice works, also you can print a small raft on it if you size it.by spacexula - Reprappers
If you spend $500k to save $500k worth of sales, you lose money. No there is a greater purpose to this move, Makerbot because more "popular" than 3d Systems according to Google Trends 3 months ago. Companies pay attention to this information. BfB's product line was not worth the money BfB's revenue was not worth the money BfB's engineering teams is not worth the money BfB's customer base isby spacexula - General
That would be a HUGE waste of money BfB has always been a bit playerby spacexula - General
Botmill's LC kits are pure crap, tha't why noone is buying it. The Makerbot price is a limit offer till they are out of the Mk4 kits, but it is a good deal. In the real world it takes around $600-$700 to get a Mendel together if you print your own parts, and $800-$1000 if you get printed parts from someone. It then takes the average person 1-2 months to train themselfs how to run it. Then youby spacexula - General
It amazes me how strong of gravity the $200-$250 price has had. I am really thinking the $200 price point is going to be the floor, that's $50 more than I thought it would be, glad I was wrong! At $200 that's about $4 an hour for the printing, which is not that bad really, not enough to run a good business model off of, but enough to keep people who like a self sustaining hobby going.by spacexula - General
That's really not a bad deal at all. If you had this shipped directly from mendel-parts.com instead of you it would be $16 dollars more. Shipping from Europe is horrible!by spacexula - For Sale
NP Sebastien Honestly I am sorry if I come off dismissive of the complaints about delays on the part of Botmill, but if you had seen what this place was like 6 months to a year ago with folk taking money and just not sending anything, you might understand why this just does not feel like a big deal. I still sugjest to most folks to go with the Mendel-Parts.com kits, just because they are cheapeby spacexula - General

So what you're saying is it's good to advertise the existence of potentially bad vendors, but bad to advertise user experiences with them? Nobody is advertising anyone here. Wikis just present information, Forums just contain opinion. Not once have I seen a core member of the RepRap dev team come out and say "Botmill is great folk, you should send money to, we endorse them". If users should uby spacexula - General
I think a rating system would be a bad idea also. Partially because it would turn into a popularity contest quick. In the end the community ends up organically self correcting. I don't know if you where around for the Profound Devices situation, but a lot of folks got burnt there, but they still have their Wiki Page and they are still selling their Mendel kit . But I don't think any folk buby spacexula - General
As far as removing them, I say no. They are not scaming, they are just giving HORRIBLE service. I made a dude wait a month for some parts I was giving him in the loaner program, every few days promising I would send it, and then I would screw up and not send it. I sent him 2 wades for $10 to make it up to him. Does not mean I am a scam artist, just means I have the attention span of a Chihuby spacexula - General
BTW if they put a return addres on that direct ship, PLEASE post it. I am curious where they are getting those partsby spacexula - General
Honestly Bits from Bytes as been quasi open source from almost day one. This just means they are going to likely go full closed source now. If this buy out means they keep their price point but start advertising, good for them.by spacexula - General
I am in the process of makeing a Mantis 9.1 . They already have a Wiki, but honestly it doesn't look like the type they want you altering that much (sort of like the Makerbot Wiki, WAY too clean). I plan on Making 3 versions of this Machine. 1 a straight up copy of their design for the Mantis 9.1 (I need a good mill for PC 2. a modification to allow for Belts and an extruder mounted on the Z axby spacexula - General
It is cheaper, but it has a pretty big buy in. Check your local RUG and see if someone will let you print a Mendel on their bot. I disagree with Sebastian on the best lasercut set to cut. I would say the Cupcake is a more polished design than the Lasercut Mendel. It's designed from the ground up to be a Lasercut set, and it shows in how few issues they have out of their Cartesian bot. Not really, If you where to start selling your version of Firefox as a closed source modified version, and refused to share your improvements, that would be "stealing from open source".by spacexula - General

My 3 year old daughter did about 1/2 of the physical construction of my Makerbot (I took it back apart after shooting my video). Both Mendel and Makerbot are pretty simple, just a lot of screwing in and plugging. Mendel takes a little more soldering unless you use the Makerbot tool chain.by spacexula - North Carolina RepRap User Group
Actually and there is already a printed version: I am actually nose deep in a printable PCB mill, so hopefully someone else swipes this for RepRap. "No Swiping Swiper!"by spacexula - General

If anything I think a "little" more realism is coming into the community. People where spending $400-$600 for the RP parts, then $600-$700 for the rest of the kit for a Mendel. In the end, if you new to the hobby a $750 Makerbot or $1000 Rapman is a better deal than a $1000-$1200 Mendel, just because the support is better. Now at $200 for the RP parts, a $800 Mendel is a good value when comparby spacexula - General
Don't have the actual numbers, but yes, the price has fell though the floor in the last year. I know for a fact, 1 year ago the plastic bits for Mendel where going for 600+ every week on Ebay, The price propitiously dropped about 6 months ago to about 400 and stayed there for a few months, then about a 2 months ago we experienced this last drop to $200.by spacexula - General
I designed that Extruder for for Rick, we are still putting the final touches on it.by spacexula - North Carolina RepRap User Group
What is this kit? What electronics Bearings? Hot end? What rating steppers? Which version of the lasercut or cnc are you offering?by spacexula - General
I go cheap on my plastic, and quality on my motors, electronics, and hot end. Makergear has the highest quality, most tested hot ends in the hobby. That's the beautiful thing about open source, the price difference between the best and the worst is only about 20-30%.by spacexula - General
