De machine rechts is de printer. Hij wordt "Mendel" genoemd naar de Oostenrijkse Augustijnse monnik Mendel, de 'vader' van de genetica. Het is het tweede verbeterde ontwerp van RepRap: het is klein genoeg om op een bureau te passen met genoeg 'print-volume' om grote dingen te maken (zie onderstaande specificaties). De machine kan worden gebouwd met onderdelen uit winkels uit de buurt of online, en onderdelen welke door een RepRap kunnen worden gefabriceerd. - alle zichtbare doorzichtige structurele componenten.
Op de foto, zichtbaar achter de machine, kun je de RepRap software zien welke gebruikt kan worden om te printen your thing. We publiceren deze software, en de ontwerpen voor de machine gratis - het is allemaal open source(GPL 2). Je moet echter wel wat standaard componenten kopen van... Tja, van wie je ook wilt... de kosten hiervan bedragen ongeveer €400. Het verkrijgen van alle materialen en het bouwen van een dergelijke machine kan misschien wat intimiderend moeilijk lijken/zijn. Deze hoofdstukken van de wiki zijn echter bedoeld om het bouwproces zo helder mogelijk uit te leggen. Klik bovenstaande "Hoe doe ik ...." verwijzing voor bouw instructies, tips en meer... Er zijn in de Mendel dokumentatie op verschillende plaatsen instructie video's beschikbaar. Ze zijn ook allemaal verzameld op deze plek. Mendel vs. Darwin
Mendel is the latest generation RepRap machine. Mendel supersedes the first version, which we call Darwin. For RepRap Version I "Darwin" instructions follow this link.
Mendel has the following key improvements over Darwin:
- Bigger print area, smaller machine footprint
- Improved constraint on the z-axis to eliminate jamming
- Better axis efficiency
- Simpler assembly
- Capacity for tool changing (to follow very shortly)
- Lighter and more portable
