Layers seperating
March 29, 2013 01:59AM
I have been having problem since I switched to a 0.25mm nozzle. My layers don't seem to stick to each other real well and some sections can be pulled apart with little effort. Does anyone know why and how to fix it?

Higher temp, slower speed. Been using a .25mm for about 5 months. If you can set up an enclosure for your printer, it will help greatly.

Ok. I will try that. I have been printing at 225-230c so ill try slower, been running at 100-200mm/s

Did you lower layer height/thickness with smaller nozzle? I use .2-.25 with a .35 J-head.

Ya, I lowered the layer height to 0.2mm for my printing, thats what caused this problem I was having I guess. I used to print with a 0.5mm nozzle and switched it out for better detail (0.25mm). I spent a lot of time trying to figure out that I had to lower the layer height, as KiSSlicer doesn't warn about that and Slic3r did. Now I just need to dial in a decent draft speed and check that my lower quality speed works and my layers don't separate.

.2mm is the upper layer height limit for a .25mm nozzle. If you don't mind the print time increase, drop down to a .15mm layer.

.1mm is my most used layer height.

I have a makergear .25mm and it works great. Usually print 180-185 Degrees (PLA), .15 Layer height, and anywhere from 40mm/s to 125mm/s... but slower speeds do work better. My layers never come apart.
