I'm thinking this is due to I haven't put the printer in an enclosure after I move house, and a bit too fast maybe

perfect first layer, others not so much, but over all its smooth

perfect first layer no lift

second print is much better but I broke the bottom of the cube trying to get it off

You can print all sorts of single-walled parts using ABS without an enclosure. Here's a 250 mm tall single-walled ABS vase printing:

The trouble starts when you print objects that are a little more solid. For that you must have a warm enclosure.
