Slic3r problem in W7x64
October 27, 2012 10:34PM
Hello! I have a big problem with running slic3r on Windows 7 x64. Slic3r 0.9.3 it is not started at all - the program window doesn't appear, only process in memory on 3-4 seconds. When i start slic3r 0.8.4, main window appear, but when I drag&drop any stl file (for example [www.thingiverse.com] or [www.thingiverse.com]), slic3r closed. Windows parametres : Windows 7 x64 SP1. I try to run in work computer, no 3D printer attached, want to make G-code. Run .exe file, no git. Try to run console version, it runs and works. Graphical version I try to run on 3 computers (all W7, x64 and x32), the same bad result at all.

Yes, my Windows is Russian. You think, that problem in slic3r in non-Russian Windows? That's strange...I am programmer and don't understand, how it can be.

There is problem in Wx:confused smileytandardPaths::Get->GetUserDataDir - unicode path is interpreted as local codepage string.
[github.com]

using --datadir or creating directories with (expected) invalid name will help.

I had a similar problem with all my laptops with the Norwegian version of Windows( XP, Vista and Win 8).
My laptops with the English version of Windows works great.
My name is Torbjørn, and as Ø is a nordic letter which creates problems in Slic3r.
The laptops with the english version of Windows transfers the Ø into ASCII characters.
At least this is what I think is Nicolòs problem if this is the login name on Windows. As I do not know Andy_111s real name, I can just asume smiling smiley

Try to generate a new windows user with only ASCII characters, and I think you should be OK.

Had similar problems with login name with danish chars.
Make a new Windows user login with ascii chars only in name.
