Support Settings Extruder Replacement
June 12, 2014 11:29AM
Hi,

i want to print the Spring-loaded Extruder PTFE.

In the description the builder wrote to activate support.

But The small holes has an 90 Degrees overhang so all holes are with support.

So does someone has experience to print this thing?

Thanks a lot

Not really a solution, but at least some discussion on the exact same subject:

I edited the STL file in Sketchup and added supports in there (thin walls that are easy to cut away). Haven't printed it yet though.

As mentioned in the other thread, there are some slicer settings (for various slicers) that should create supports for the "hinge", but not for the filament tube. Try slicing, and check the gcode in for example gcode.ws until you get something that seems right, and then try printing it.

Hi jstck,

LOL, i edited also the STL File yesterday. I added 1mm stabs on the hinge (round the hole) to cut of after print.

In slic3r the gcode looks ok. So lets try today....

I'd like to see some of your solutions - perhaps I can make a permanent change that suits?

Hi,

here is my file. added 1mm stabs between the mount point. Print, cut the stabs and enjoy.... works good.

I've added versions of the PTFE and normal with breakaway support. You should be able to print without any support now.
Probably should have done that in the beginning but I'm fairly used to Kisslicer's support just working! smiling smiley

Hi
I have been printing the part put up on Thingiverse by MasonStonehenge [www.thingiverse.com], which he has just updated in the last few days.
This now has support and some extra strength added.
There are photos of the current progress I am having printing these parts on this make page [www.thingiverse.com]
Hope it helps show some of the support material and experiences I have had.

Did the support come off easily enough and cleanly ezwul? It looks OK from the pictures

Hi

Yes, squeezing them together made the concertina open and close and they came away one by one until the support was free.
There was only one layer left and that was cleaned up with a scalpel.
