Fan Wires question
September 30, 2015 06:38AM
Hi,
My original Ormerod 1 fan has finally given out.
Just putting a new fan in, however, this has a red, black and yellow wire.
The Ormerod fan has only a black and a red...

Shall i just ignore/remove the yellow wire?

also, bonus question.
Does any one know what crimp pins are used on the fan and where i can get some?
Male 2mm?? no idea....

any help much appreciated!

Yes you can ignore the yellow wire, just make sure it can't short against anything.

If you have the original 6-pin hot end connector, then it is very difficult to get the pins out without a special tool, so I recommend splicing the new fan wires to the old ones and insulating the connections with heatshrink sleeving.

ah that would have been a much better idea.
I have already poked the pins out (one broke in the process which is why I'm trying to find replacements). Chances are I've probably broken the original 6pin connector housing...

What pins and connectors do I need?
Will these do?

Look for tycoAmp Micro-mate. Other contacts will not fit.
