EBAY Steppers

Hello all,
I'm in the process of pricing out a 3d printer. I've found some steppers on ebay for what I think is a good price. I've seen several postings like this or this. Will either of those motors work?

Thanks
Bill

Look very similar to mine and should be ok.

That price is good.

You will only need the 4 inner wires so cut off the 2 outer wires altogether when you connect your extension wires to your electronics.

Those are definitely cheaper than new. Another user recommended SparkFun item ROB-10846. I bought them for my Prusa but haven't completely finished yet to say how well they work because I ended up leaving out some parts in my initial order and had to have one of the steppers replaced because it arrived with a bent arbor.

Those steppers are too weak, you need at least twice the torque for the x/y/e motors.

I bought these and they solved all of my stepping issues.

I think I may have been caught with too small a motors for torque
and inertia. I am building with 8mm linear bearings so they may
be o'k.

Seeing most of the set-ups I think 1.4 - 2 amp motors are requitred
with NEMA17 frames about 40mm long.

I understand the driver boards are build for 2.5 amp max.

I've just ordered some of these

Hopefully they will be ok, although the 4.4 holding torque is not as high as the alltronics ones

Zimtower's comment is overereaching a bit. Tony is one of the sellers pointed to in the first post. I know him personally, and have used and tested all of the motors he tags with REPRAP. They are quiet, and strong. You won't likely find a better price that his.

According to the Prusa Mendel parts list the extruder stepper should be at least 40Ncm. The strongest motors in the first post are 33.5oz/in, which I make to be 24Ncm. Would this not be too weak for the extruder at least?
