So, I was worried that I would have not been able to upload the firmware in my board with the menu disabled. Apparently tough, that menù was irrelevant to the process as I successfully uploaded the firmware once verified.
On the other hand, not being able to see the port was an issue on pronterface, that could not connect to the board. I must have worked around this problem by downloading and installing the USB drivers available from this website: [

Not until I checked that there were conflicting old drivers.
I found out that many users were running in similar problems and just as many ways were adopted to fix them.
