Rectlinear, line, honey comb ?
November 13, 2015 04:35AM
Guys,

What's the different between rectlinear, line, honey comb ?
I see it at slic3r "Infill" option, which is best ? or it depends on the object I print ?
I printed a star shape but the edge is not sticking properly to the center area..
The edge looks loose....

Why is that ?

Thanks

Hi,

Slicer manual about infill.

Percentage depends of the expected strenght of the object.
I'm not sure the infill option changes things a lot.
Some are faster to be printer (lines), some are weak (concentric),
anyways, a lot of reprappers uses only linear, rectilinear or eventualy honneycom only,
and stick to that setting whatever the part is.

Ok, thanks for your suggestions, why the edge is not consistent ? Please have a look on the photo...

Try setting your speed to half or less than what you're using now and see if that makes a difference.

Ok, I will, currently I'm using 100 as my feed rate.....try using with 90, it's abit better.....can it work on 50 ? thanks

Where can I find feedrate in slic3r setting ?thanks

Right below your XYZ buttons in the main window.

I tried reducing the speed, it's tidier but still I can see the edge is not tidy, is it matter of infill or something else,
Please have a look on the result,

Thanks

Try 25 for the speed.
Have you calibrated the extruder?
Does the diameter of the filament match the setting in Slic3r?
Do single wall objects print at the correct size?
Have you calibrated the hot end temperature?
What type of filament are you using?
How much retraction are you using? How fast is the retraction?

Try 25 for the speed.
I will

Have you calibrated the extruder?
Yes I have, please have a look at the picture

Does the diameter of the filament match the setting in Slic3r?
Yes it does, 0.4 mm

Do single wall objects print at the correct size?
How can I make single wall object ? is it 1 mm wall ?

Have you calibrated the hot end temperature?
Yes I have, attached

What type of filament are you using?
PLA white color

How much retraction are you using? How fast is the retraction?
Where can I find this setting in Repetier ?

Thanks

Infill not touching walls is very often a sign of underextrusion. Have you calibrated the steps per mm correctly?
Use this guide: [reprap.org]

You should also measure your actual filament diameter. Inputting 1,75mm in Slic3r is a bad idea. Measure the real diameter across a length of a few meters.

You could also check this site for more info on underextrusion:

Also make sure that your filament doesn't slip on the hobbed bolt and that your hot end nozzle isn't clogged.

A single wall object means one row of plastic is laid down for each layer. There are quite a few of these on Thingiverse and Youmagine.

Calibrating means verifying the settings in Slic3r and your firmware match the real world. In other words, if you're printing a 25mm cube, are all of the dimensions 25mm?

You can see what Slic3r has set the extrusion width (and other settings) by opening the gcode file in a text editor. The wall thickness of a single wall object should equal the extrusion width.

I tried to print a square wall with the thickness 2mm with the height = 5mm and it was good...please see the photo,
I used feedrate speed 25......

And a solid cube 1cm x 1cm x 1cm.....with the speed 100mm/s

Sorry, but the images are too blurry.

The object of printing the cube is to determine if the length of the sides are exactly the same as the model.

Printing a single wall object will tell you if your extruder is putting out the correct amount of plastic.

I took it too close, I'll take it again later on...but if I take from far, we can not see the detail....may be zoom can help...

Honey comb is very strong structure which is good for strength. But if your printer is not calibrated properly, the honey comb will be messy... Rectilinear is slanted straight line. Easy to print and faster... I usu use rectilinear for my prusa i3 And use honey comb for my Felix
