My first 3D Printer build - RepRap Prusa i3 Rework
August 30, 2017 06:48PM
Hi, so I am building my first 3D printer and come a long way (RepRap Prusa i3 Rework).

I want to share an image of an print so hopefully you guys know what's wrong.
Any directions would be awesome.

To me it looks like somewhere at 2 o clock in the circle there is a line that goes a bit to the inner center of the circle, every time the nozzle bumps a bit over it, finally creating a mess.
Mechanically I can't think of anything anymore to tweak or change, using Pronterface as software, and me not being familiar with it, could be possible the reason why it's not printing perfect.

So any directions would be welcome!

Thanks, Marco.

Check the belt tightness.

Check the belt tightness.

Thanks, checked that already.

Started with Cura now, way simpler.

What I do notice is a sort of bump every time a certain position is reached, that's no good...

Is the bump there when the bed is moving or the carriage? Can you disable the motors and move either one of them and feel the bump?

Are you talking about these bumps?

When I disable the motors I can't really find out or feel that bump, that's so frustrating.
When I look at the printer while printing I don't see a bump happening looking to the carriage, but the bed does bump a little bit, so it must be the bed.
When I was tightening the belt I tried to move the bed backwards and forwards without a belt, that felt smooth.
I'll have a go and test print without filament to check where this is coming from.

Indeed there you can see something is not going right, after I saw that I checked the printer and saw that bump happening on the machine which causes this bump in the print.

Also, right now I am calibrating the space between the nozzle and bed with a piece of a4 paper, is it better to use shims then that?

Paper is what I use. You just have to get the feel for it.

What I circled in the pictures is where the start and stop of the lines being laid down are. Have you calibrated the extruder?

I'll go and focus on calibrating the extruder, thanks.
