Both entries looking good so far! I've failed several times so far I'll get there...by 3ddude - Competitions
Now that's a cool design! I feel a 50mm brim coming on...by 3ddude - Competitions
Bob, thanks but I am having issues with the code I got from Github. I think it's 'looking up' previous components or elements and it can't find them. Do I need to load in a complete model or something? I've copied the cal.scad code over but it won't fully compile. This is the code (apologies for post length and hijack!):- // // Mendel90 // // GNU GPL v2 // nop.heaby 3ddude - Printing
I'm struggling to get from the scad file to an stl. I have no idea how to use Openscad which is obviously very limiting. I'm used to sketchup so it's a steep learning curve! Can you tell me how to creats the stl (or send it to me ) and I'll try printing it.by 3ddude - Printing
I think it was 0.2mm from memory I'll add more segments to the curved part next time I need something that shape. It's all a learning curve!by 3ddude - General
Of course, the rotary one is this one. Obviously you need to be a bit careful as it can be a bit aggressive but it's ok if you go slow and keep the speed low Basic tool holder (desk tidy type thing) below. There's a lot of different ones on thingiverse, this one is one I made to test a new filament and embossing text vertically .by 3ddude - General
I think I read somewhere that Nophead uses skeinforge to get correct dimensions on parts. Could you post s link to his calibration piece and I'll try it on my Mendel90 too. It would be interesting to see if it does the same thingby 3ddude - Printing
And a 3D printed custom tool holder of course!! Oh and I bought a cheapo rotary tool with about a million attachments which has made part finishing and support removal so much easier.by 3ddude - General
Thanks for the tip. I tried it with the standard support and it came out pretty good! I'm very impressed with the software, totally worth a donation Pics....by 3ddude - General
Extrusion multiplier does the same thing I believe. I like the idea of the calibration cubes with different flow rates. Is it possible to put that into gcode? Presumably it is?by 3ddude - Printing
Thanks. I have re-calibrated my Z height and was getting the same issue... until I turned cooling off! Schoolboy error after switching from PLA!!by 3ddude - Printing
Hi Ohmarinus, I'm having the issue where the ABS pulls off the bed due to warping after the first few layers. When you say the height needs to be exactly right do you mean calibrated correctly or settings in the slicing software? I'm eager to get printing with ABS Thanks!by 3ddude - Printing
What version of slic3r? I found the latest one to be more accurate, although holes still come up smaller. Apparently skeinforge is the one if you need dimensional precision but I have no idea what all the settings in it do! I was also wondering that if your prints are out by different amounts in X and Y, is it worth checking the e-steps for those motors?by 3ddude - General
I'm trying to model a wheel for an RC car so I can print it and I'm struggling. I'm using sketchup as that's all I know, but the wheel needs some support under the hub and spokes. I *think* it would print if there was some break off support designed into it but I don't have enough skill to draw it. I tried enabling support in the latest slicer and it seems to infill under the wheel. Does anyoneby 3ddude - General
There will be some soon I'll update this thread when it's available.by 3ddude - General
Hi All, I'm acquiring some filament at the moment and I'd like some feedback and opinions on it. I have 5 x 5m samples of 3mm PLA in neon yellow and 5 x 5m samples of 3mm white ABS. All available for free, delivered within UK, one per person. All I ask in return is your honest feedback! If this is of interest to you, please drop me a PM with your choice and delivery address (UK Mainland only I'by 3ddude - General
+1 Mendel90 Build time was 9hrs plus a couple of hours until trying first print. Simple to build and good instructions. Highly recommended!by 3ddude - General
Is it something along these lines?by 3ddude - General
Woo, one point! I'll take that with thanks Thanks to Iceman for taking the time to arrange and see the challenge throughby 3ddude - Competitions
Ok, just managed to get one more inby 3ddude - Competitions
Chris, as always, thanks for your help. Great write-up, I will need to read that a few times I think! At least I understand the principal now. I'll make a few adjustments when I get a minute and see how it goesby 3ddude - Mendel90
Hi fellow Mendel90-ers I would like to be able to print dimensionally correct pieces so I'm in need of some calibration. I have found Triffid Hunters guide and I need a few bits of information before I get onto it. I'm hoping that someone can help with the initial info mentioned on the guide... 3) know how many full steps per revolution your steppers are. steps = 360 / angle. 1.8° = 200 steps,by 3ddude - Mendel90
Just a quick note, I think 'blooming' is referring to the skirt settings. If you have a few mm skirt at 0mm from the object, it creates a one layer thick flat skirt/brim around the print to increase surface area and therefore increase bond to the bed. Have you checked your filament diameter and input it correctly? How did adjusting the flow rate work out? Do you have a glass sheet on the bed toby 3ddude - Mendel90
Richgain, that looks pretty good to me! The bird looks really shiny too, did you do any cleanup or anything to it?by 3ddude - Competitions
Right, got the printer running again after a thermistor blip! My first attempt is below. I had to print at 200% to get the cage bars to slice. I'm still new to this so I need a bit more practice with small stuff! I will try again with different filament and settings. Oh, and you're right about being allowed to spend time with the printer, as long as these birdcages are 'for her' I can mess aboutby 3ddude - Competitions
Hi Chris, thanks for the advice. I removed the thermistor and hotend wires from the mini-pcb to test them and they are reading correctly. When I re-installed them, everything seems back to normal again. I will run it as-is for a while and see if it happens again, then I'll have a look at the hotend wires as you suggested. Maybe it was a strand i'd missed when tinning the wires or something! Thanby 3ddude - Mendel90
I just checked again and it's 104k now. Maybe I got it wrong before! I'm not an avid multimeter user... I could swear I had it on the 20k parameter setting before! I think I'll go over the pre-start electrical checks in the build manual next to make sure they all read correctlyby 3ddude - Mendel90
it's reading about 12k and the hotend was just showing 90 degrees prior to the maxtemp error again (I tried a print after disconnecting the thermistor before I saw your reply) Thanksby 3ddude - Mendel90
I should probably add that the hotend is reading at 260 degrees or so in pronterface, but it's cold to the touch. Presumably that's an issue with the thermistor? It looks normal at the hotend, ie nothing touching, all wires covered up etc... I'll continue playing with it whilst still open to suggestions of course!by 3ddude - Mendel90
Hi all! I've come up against a problem and I'm a little bit unsure how to rectify. The hotend is currently off as the MAXTEMP was triggered (somehow). It did it yesterday and I turned it all off and waited to see if it sorted itself out. It's now done it again after printing ok for about 10 mins. Could someone advise me how I reset the Maxtemp thing so I can test again? I thought there may be aby 3ddude - Mendel90
