Any details on that "Harbor Freight" lathe?by maddox - General
Looking forward to the Bowden developments with the tubing, and possibly some info on the watercooled short version testing I saw you mention;-) For longer length Bowden setups shooting for accuracy/detail, what is higher on the priority list for tubing selection, less friction or less expansion under pressure?by maddox - General

I saw a similar picture a while back and asked on here if anyone knew if the Mojo was an H-bot, and I think people explicitly said no. Very interesting, and gives me hope in the dimensional accuracy feasibiliby maddox - General

Here's an video of an old Stratasys FDM2000 that uses a purge/wipe cycle between switching nozzles, but they use brass brushes for the wiping: Here's a video of a Rostock take on the wipe feature: And finally, the reprappro multi color kit has its software build a hollow cylinder (which they call a 'shield') next to the part on the print bed, which it purges into and wipes on the edge ofby maddox - General

Cool, I like your thoughts. My ideas are on a much shorter timeframe than the end of 2013, so maybe once your hotend gets a little more thoroughly tested and the heat level/jamming cases gets worked out, I'll probably be talking to you about possibly buying some of the hotends without the aluminum heatsink, to retrofit my own watercooling prototype on there. I was looking for some high quality example prints from the RRP mendel before I bought mine, and I was a little surprised that I almost couldn't find any super high quality showoff prints (like you can find in abundance for Ultimaker, tantillus etc). I'm in the process of assembling my RRP mendel, and I hope I'm able to eventually get it calibrated super tightly, and that there aren't major flawby maddox - General

Any pics of the "Two toothed pulley from an Qu-bd extruder" that you're using?by maddox - General
I'm going to be playing with PC when I get a new hotend that can handle printing it. A project printer that I'm designing will have minimal printed parts, and the parts that I do have to print, I'm going to print in polycarbonate (for the stiffness, and for the high temperature resistance, as the pieces will be used in a heated chamber.by maddox - General
I think the reprap project can have different values for different people. For example, while I can definitely appreciate the ideal of a 'self-replicating' machine, the machines that I use would place precision, quality and accuracy as a priority over cost or reprap print-ability.by maddox - General
Sanjay, I was/am going to send you a PM about consideration of you producing a water cooled version of your hotend, that would ideally be shorter and lighter without the big aluminum heatsinks. Any possibility of you considering that? I could possibly help with alpha testing/development and feedback.by maddox - General
If you're talking about the reprappro, then I have a similar/worse situation (like I just posted in a similar thread). I paid for mine on February 11th, and just received the package yesterday. That's a full 60+ days to delivery, when I was told 'it should be off next week' back in February. I have a specific business project that was simply waiting for months for this piece to arrive (and theyby maddox - General
Just a heads up, they (reprappro) took absurdly long to ship my color mendel upgrade kit (paid for on Feb 11th, they said it should be shipping out 'next week', I still haven't received it yet). Quite disappointed with that and their lack of communication, though I hope the parts are worth it.by maddox - General
Sublime, do you think that 1.75mm filament would possibly aid in that? Would stronger motors possibly help with that, or do you think it is more caused by elasticity/compliance in the filament/bowden tube system?by maddox - General
Bowden-type extrusion has inherent strengths and weaknesses, but what I am most interested in is how large of a print build area one can go with a Bowden setup (assuming cartesian X-Y movement only, with a moving Z-bed). People talk about size limits for effective use of them, but I'm looking for people with either first hand experience with them in a larger format machine, or possibly very reliby maddox - General

And writing down those thoughts got me thinking that the meltzone on this nozzle may possibly be variable, by hooking the fan up to a PID controller. The heat sink is long enough, that one might possibly be able to control the melt zone to be part of the way up into the heatsink?by maddox - General
I love the idea behind the sharp thermal break, with steady state boundary conditions (the heat sink at X temp and the nozzle at Y temp), allowing a consistent and controlled temp gradient and melt zone length. The one thing that I'm not necessarily the most stoked about, or rather that I have questions about and would love to hear some conversation on, is that the melt zone length is pre-determby maddox - General
Sanjay, thanks for the reply. Yeah, thin out those heatsinks by like 50%, and you can consider me sold on at least 3 (as well as a consideration of having you supply many more, if I decide to market the machine that I'm building).by maddox - General
