Thanks for responses!
I have a couple of extra questions:
1) What is a 'hobbed bolt'?
2) Any comments on A2A Parts?

Thanks for the comeback!
Re:
"And getting threaded rods/drill rods is going to be pretty expensive unless you scavenge old printers,"
Actually, I am a Freegeek volunteer; they go through (literally) tons of printers per month.
I know there is a supplier of the "vitamins, here in Canada, but they don't have any printed parts; that's what's holding me back.

I have come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to do everything from 'scratch', for a long list of reasons.
The lead items are:
1. Puny finances
2. No suitable machine tools
3. No vehicle
4. Located far away from the nearest *active* Reprap group
I am wondering about building an Eiffel type device but with the type of extruder in the FTIstrap. Any comments on that idea?
Thanks

The Vancouver RepRap group seems to be struggling.
I suggest
* since the printed parts can be moulded, according to a post I saw, and lost track of.
* find and cross-post that entry so at least somebody can get started.

Are there any other desirable devices besides those particular Epsons?
I know a place with literally tons of computer stuff to be recycled.
If you could give some sort of guide to what's worth looking for, I'd be grateful.
Tnx.

On that topic, I calculated that a gadget (printer or scanner) that has an actual resolution of 2400 dpi, ought to have a positioning accuracy of .01mm, as follows:
(2400^(-1))*25.4=0.01058333.

I would like to add a 'you too' to my post regarding Angelina's post, and a 'me too' to your post.
In other words, how about joining forces?

Hi Angelina,
I'm also thinking about building a Prusa Mendel, and
I live in Vancouver (but not downtown).
I am a programmer too, and also a Ham radio
operator - familiar with electronics.
How much progress have you made so far?
I will check this forum frequently.

Thanks for the reply; I had not known about the bowden hysterisis problem.
200x200 mm sounds rather more than I figured I'd need, though.
Decisions, decisions...

Hi!
Any thoughts regarding Huxley vs Mendel vs Mini-Mendel?
I'm fairly experienced at DIY electronic projects, and software.
Thanks
