Nevermind, found the Google Doc BOM which has all this info. Side note; am I crazy or is the BOM link on the store (http://parts.reprap.org/part/module/PowerComms+Board+v1.3) completely broken? Anyway, sorry about the confusion. -Kaiby KDuncan - Controllers
Hey guys, I'm working on my 1.3 board now and I wanted to double-check some part placements before I go further. Many apologies if this has already been covered. Which resistors are which? And, are D2, D3 the multicolor LEDs or are they D4, D5? Thanks. -Kaiby KDuncan - Controllers
nophead, it's strange actually; they only appear if another window is in focus. For instance, if I have HyperTerminal in the foreground, there's no readout, but if I click over to Firefox or really any other window, when I come back to HT it'll have the garbage. -Kaiby KDuncan - RepRap Host
Zach, I can't do much better than cell phone cam, sorry to say. Would that be good enough? nophead, I've attached a screenshot of the garbage I'm getting. This was after five minutes running. -Kaiby KDuncan - RepRap Host
The polarity's all correct. Also, I ran the voltages without the MAX earlier; with it all the voltages match aside from 15 to 11 match, 15 to 11 being at 3 instead of 4. -Kaiby KDuncan - RepRap Host
nophead, definite problems. I'll list every test where I didn't get the right voltage. * Pin 15 to 14: -7 to -15V. A mismatch suggests a short on the board or a miswiring of the cable. * Pin 15 to 12: 5V * Pin 15 to 11: 4 to 4.5V. It's not much better with the cable plugged in. Every one of the above tests returned 0 volts. I'm not actually certain how to check the polarity of theby KDuncan - RepRap Host
Well, I've checked all my solder points, resoldered the ones that looked even remotely in doubt, and still no luck. So now I'm thinking, could I have damaged my PowerComms board? I've switched out every component except it, so I'm thinking I may have inadvertently damaged it in some way. -Kaiby KDuncan - RepRap Host
Hey guys, sorry I've been silent for so long. I ordered a new serial cable and it only just arrived yesterday. Didn't help, but worth a shot. emf, thank you so much for the firmware files! I'm testing with them now. Success with LED Throb! Oh, woah, strangeness with TX Baud. LED's going but Hyperterminal is only returning the grabage. Same behavior with two different boards. RX Test works likby KDuncan - RepRap Host
nophead, yeah, the cables are pointing the right way. I just tried a fresh PIC with a twice-verified programming and got nowhere. Any ideas? -Kaiby KDuncan - RepRap Host
Okay, update time. First off, I did find a flaw on my main testing board, flipped R7 and R4. Switched to a new board but the problem persists. EXCEPT now I can jump pins 7 and 8 and get the HT test going. With a programmed and verified PIC, nothing. At this point it'd almost have to be the PIC, right? -Kaiby KDuncan - RepRap Host
I've got 1.2.1 on everything, PowerComm and UCB alike. I've just redone the Hyperterminal tests and here's what I've got; - No response with the PowComm->UCB configuration - Response when using each of my cables to short the PowComm (http://www.reprap.org/bin/view/Main/DarwinPowerAndCommunicationsCard_1_2#Testing_Round_2) I'm running Windows but I do have a liveCD somewhere around here. I'llby KDuncan - RepRap Host
My apologies, I tend to get ahead of myself. First, yes, could you move this to the electronics section? I'm a computer guy by trade and defaulted to the system being at fault. Okay, here's where I'm at thus far: built the PowerComm, tested it, everything ran smoothly. The terminal test worked exactly as it was supposed to. So I go and make a UCB, planning for the X-axis controller. I'm followinby KDuncan - RepRap Host
Well, an early Mouser delivery and I'm back to square one. I'm trying to get voltage readings and everything comes out screwy. For instance; On my PowerComm board, the two pins furthest apart read 2-3 volts, but the two innermost register 4-5. Is anode definitely supposed to be the T/R pin? Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Kaiby KDuncan - RepRap Host
Blarg, nevermind. Instructions for testing changed two days ago and completely explains my problem.by KDuncan - RepRap Host
I'll check the voltages when I get home tonight (damnable job, keeping me from what's important ) but I can tell you I've got the 1.2.1 board and both headers are tab-in. I've tried switching the pins around, but all that resulted in was a crash. Thanks very much for the help.by KDuncan - RepRap Host
Okay, this one's got me stumped. I've got my PowerComms and a UCB with the x-axis firmware installed. My transmit and receive cables are made using some cat-5 innards. I've used each seperately as a short with the PowerComm and Telnet, got no trouble. However, for whatever reason, the host software can't see the x-axis UCB. Could my wire be at fault? Could my programmer have done, say, half theby KDuncan - RepRap Host
Quick question on the UCB build. Does the TG connector still need to be flipped on the 1.2.1 board? Flipping it is listed both in the 1.2.0 bug list and the first stage instructions.by KDuncan - Controllers
I finished my Power/Comms board this weekend! I'm having a bit of a programmer issue though, ICProg won't let me select my LPT port for programming, but I've emailed Spark Fun about it and will hopefully get an answer soon. In the meantime, another visit to the wonderful world of Mouser. -Kaiby KDuncan - Reprappers
Hi all, thought I'd introduce myself. Working on my first Reprap out of Northern VA. I'm not what you would call deep into it yet (just started a new gig so the money's a bit...well, on the negative side) but I'm hoping to finish my PowerComm this weekend. Even got myself an AT power supply from a buddy's tech grab bag. So long as I'm here, I wanted to ask about the support material extruder. Haby KDuncan - Reprappers
