I had some issues with a freezing printer in the moment someone switched on a fluorescent tube in the house. Since I'm running my RasPi with a Blackberry Charger, and Melzi also powered by USB (from RasPI), all Probs are gone. Pronsole gives a 18% CPU Load on RasPI, so no Problems at all!by WDZaphod - Developers
Yeah, 250kBaud works now! My PI boots up with VNC started, Pronterface running inside. Samba installed, sharing the gcode-Folder. Nearly perfect, just the screen could be slightly biggerby WDZaphod - Developers
What baud rate are you using, 250kBaud?by WDZaphod - Developers
That's exactly what I was looking for! Is this implemented already?by WDZaphod - Developers
With VNC you also don't need to start the window manager, I just start up Pronterface and one instance of xTerm behind it (to start Prontface again if I have to quit). VNC has the advantage of the persistent session, you can disconnect, and it stays alive. X will terminate pronterface if you get disconnected.by WDZaphod - Developers
Of course it would be nice, but I think web based it not a need if u have a screen connected to your PI. Just start X, open Pronterface, and you'll see all you need. IF it works with 250kBaud. The ATMega runs with 16MHZ, this is not a baud rate frequency. So 230kBaud will cause jitter probs, beause it simply doesn't match. And (at least my) RasPI / Debian seems to not support 250kBaud, hopefullyby WDZaphod - Developers
I didn't know that you can move X or Y after pressing pause, and it returns to the last point when you resume? That's great! Nevertheless you have to take care while printing to not miss the point, where a nut fits in, but no covering layer on top already. Especially in tight designs this might be just two layers where it's possible... And: Pressing pause doesn't stop immediately, my printer doesby WDZaphod - Developers
Hello Guys, womderi g if this exists already? Is it possible to add a king of break point to the gcode, what makes the printer stop at a defined point (and probably lifts Z a new mm, to prevent melting a hole), and continue printing after a button is pressed? This would be useful for changing filament color in the middle of a print, or adding something (a nut for example) in a print before a covby WDZaphod - Developers
Yes, but the FTDI is not the problem in my Setup - it works fine with all PCs I tested under Ubuntu and 250kBaud. My current Reprap had a Melzi Board. When I'm back home from holidays, I will check how the new RAMPS behaves, and also the newest Rasperry Image!by WDZaphod - Developers
Okay, I will give a try to the new RasPI Debian Image - might work better :-) On the "normal" hardware I use a standard install of Debian 6.04 without any mods. Board was a Atom 800MHZ single core Mini-ITX Board. X over SSH is nice, but it kills the session when you disconnect (of course). That's why I used VNC with autostart session after bootup. This stays alive. Sure *nix client, my house isby WDZaphod - Developers

Do I need new FTDI drivers? Same Problem here - I think it's a problem of Debian, not of the Raspberry PI. I tried on several PCs, running Ubuntu it's fine withby WDZaphod - Developers
HI Forum, i just finished the mechanic part of my Reprappro Mendel, now I have some probs with the Melzi Controller Board... Pronterface on Ubuntu is installed, GUI starts up. After connecting the board via USB, the green LED lights up (after 15Secs). /dev/ttyUSB0 appears, also fine. Just connecting to the printer doesn't work, I started with 115kBaud, but also tried all the other ones down toby WDZaphod - Controllers
Nice one - what laser are you using? I bought a wickedlasers Arctic Spyder (1W blue) a while ago, but it's too heavy and too huge. Mabye I will disassemble it? Or do you have a source for the laser diode and driver? Well done!by WDZaphod - Laser Cutter Working Group
What's about the dirt / dust appearing while milling? I guess, little copper pieces between smooth rods and linear bearings of your Mendel might not be the best for the health of it?by WDZaphod - CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping
Gelantine is weird - for me it's something slobby like a Jellyfish, or harder and unbelievable glue-crab like a hot Haribo. So - as a result of my question: People tried already in different ways, but it's not working, too complicated, or simply not needed?by WDZaphod - General
Hi Forum, currently I am building my 1st Printer (Mendel), so no experience yet. Just thinking of something - maybe it's possible? The Idea is to print a 2nd Filler material to support 90° (free air) printing. Like filling up a box with Something (tm) to support the upper layer. The interesting point is: How do I remove this filler? Use something like sugar, and you can simply wash it out. Orby WDZaphod - General
Fein, danke! Dann hängt's nur noch an meiner Finanzministerin Freu mich schon auf das Vieh, SketchUp klappt auch schon ganz gut...by WDZaphod - Neue Ideen - Archiv
