It's good for me. I haven't been able to do much since the last meeting because of budget problems (bought a PS3, ) but I did get my motors wired up properly and got most of the parts for the extruder head along with 2 different sizes for nozzles and different types of thermistors. I can probably bring an old win95 laptop with some mockups of the designs I was thinking of for the head I was talkiby Dylan - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
Last time we met I think we were talking about the Sun after the superbowl, so I guess that means next weekend. You still seem to be "unregistered"? Dylanby Dylan - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
Ok, I'll try something like that. thanks Dylanby Dylan - Controllers
Ok, that makes it more clear. So apparently the "k" is the only thing that translates to change the decimal place. I suppose that means that the piece I cut was then in fact a 1.2ohm length. Any idea how to solder that to my wires, it's quite a pain? thanks Dylanby Dylan - Controllers
I cut a smal piece of nichrome to test it's length vs resistance and I'm looking for some clarification. This might sound odd to some of you, but I would like clarification please. example: I test a 10k resistor on the 20k setting and I get 10, as I should. Which means that the k adds the 3 zeros, at 2k it would measure 100 (plus the 3 zeros) (it doesn't, but theoretically it should). With thisby Dylan - Controllers
Here is the link to Adrians post: the link he has up there for the source doesn't work anymore, but here is the link for the files already compiled. If you are having problems putting them on the chip after that, there may be a problem with how you are programming it. If that's the case, check the forums of the programmer you have. Hope this helps. Dylanby Dylan - Controllers
Thanks to Sparrow for his thinking on my motors being wired wrong. I contacted the ebay supplier I had, got the correct wiring, and now I tested it and it WORKS!! Speaking of the thermistors, I ordered a few extra with higher ratings from mouser. The one that is listed has a lot lower heat temp range (-50 to 150C) I ordered some rated for 200. We/I can test them to see if they work any better.by Dylan - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
I figured as much, but I wanted anyone else who came across this to know the current status instead of thinking that someone put forth a valid point and I was just ignoring them.by Dylan - Controllers
I already tried all that. I don't remember if I wrote it above, but I got it to work on another pc windows and on my pc on the live CD. I am working on installing linux on a really old laptop for dedicated reprapping.by Dylan - Controllers
Our next local meeting isn't for another 2 weeks, so I agree at least a month. The more working machines we have, the more people will be interested I think. I like the video idea, but it might get confusing having so many people with some of them trying to talk at the same time. It would be a lot cheaper though. Anyone can afford a webcam. I'm using my old PS2 eyetoy for a webcam. lol. Dylanby Dylan - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
Cheap! no problem, we can get that working in the next meeting. I used to run cable in houses anyway. (check your email, I sent you something about the next meeting) I'll look up when the Austin one is, but that sound like fun too. "They have camping for Cheap!" They have camping just for you, that's odd, lol. Skype does sound like a decent idea, I don't know how many connections you can have upby Dylan - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
I would love to go to the maker faire even if the reprap project wasn't there, but it's out of the question for finances for me. I wouldn't be able to afford the travel, let alone the missed money from days off work. If someone were to donate airfair and shared a hotel.... At least if it's in driving distance from Houston then all I might miss is some time at work. So I'm in for that. That shouldby Dylan - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
We accomplished much this meeting. I know I will for get some of it so please feel free to comment. Kelly, Dylan, RoundSparow, and I all worked together for about five hours. I tried the experimental exe installer from Janathan which worked great and easy to use. I know that works properly. We installed it at one of our Houston meetings on another computer and after installing Java it worked properly and everything. Nice job Jonathan. I am going to end this issue here since it defenitely isn't a UCB board issue anymore so the title and the first 2 pages are pretty muby Dylan - Controllers
I like doing my design work in something I am more familiar with. Such as Maya, Max, or even milkshape 3d (I really don't like the interface in the aoi). I haven't found a decent converter to STL for any of these, but here is one: the plugin is free and the software is fairly cheap. You can't actually build in it, but you can open an obj, mdl, md2, 3ds, etc and using the plugin downloaded from tby Dylan - 3D Design tools
That's a good plan. I liked Fuzzy's, but I don't think that they'd appreciate power tools. I'll be there and bring what I have so far. Dylanby Dylan - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
That's interesting. I didn't even know the serial ports had different specs. I haven't had any problems with my PG2. (the one Sparrow is talking about) and I've been programming 16F and 18F. If it has been problematic for people, then it might not work too well. On the other hand, it's the only programmer I've ever had and it's been fine. This might not be too much of an issue in the long termby Dylan - Controllers
It sounds like a good idea. The sooner we get one working model, the faster the other ones will develop. Jim looks like he's pretty close on the McWire setup. I can finish soldering my other boards by then and have a 1st gen system electronics and you (after fixing your wires) should have a 2nd gen system and extruder head (after a new thermistor). I would think that except for some true capa, weby Dylan - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
Hmm... It said something about date, that's what was confusing me. My local Home depot had 5/16 steel rods, but they were 3.80 compared to the 2.80 on the site I mentioned above. Last time I looked though, they only had 1 left. The rrrf store might be able to get some of that stuff too by buying in bulk from the manufacturer. Ok, I don't know how or why this happened, but I got it working with the liveCD with all the default setting, but restarting in windows without touching any of the boards still won't work. I'm assuming 0.8.1 is the host version on the CD. I am working on getting the mechanical stuff for the Darwin together. Unfortunately the McMaster bill was over $370 by itself. I don't have that kind of cash available after paying for my car and other bills. Basically I'm trying to be cheap, if anyone else wants to follow my lead this is what I've done so far to drop the price: Quote 1--M5 screws-buy 1(100) pack of 50mm. The houston group just finished meeting a while ago. I took my cable, pcomm, UCB, and chips and it worked fine on his machine (thanks RoundSparrow). He had to use the serial to usb adapter, but my cable was used from my boards to the adapter so the cable works too. The only thing now is checkin the computer side of it. He was running Unbuntu off the hard drive. We even hooked up a motor and got iby Dylan - Controllers
Have you tested the stepmotor.hex firmware with the host software? That is where my issue is. (getting the pic and host to talk)by Dylan - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
I don't think that the baud test was meant for that version of SDCC since it was made about 6 months ago. I was wanting to get the SDCC working also because I wanted to modify the code myself and maybe make something from scratch. I'm used to basic though so it might be somewhat challenging. I don't have the time tonight to try the testing, but on Sun the local group will meet and one of them sayby Dylan - Controllers
Stephen, if you have the host software setup on your laptop you could really help my out with testing my setup. I can get my pc to talk to the PIC and it sends data back, but not at the right speed I think. If you have the 16f648a then maybe I could try one of your chips in my board and see if that fixes the problem. I'll probably be staying until we finish being productive and I get bored. How could I send you my PIC and yours if I don't have yours? or were you meaning you send me one and me test it, then me send you mine and yours to verify? My car is in pieces and dead, but I am hopefully getting a new one tomorrow. If that goes through then this Sun would be great. Maybe we can bring what we have and address any concerns. Thanks Jonathan I might have to take you up on that offer, I could probably give you a few $ on paypal to cover shipping. I tried installing SDCC and making the tx_baud file from the source and then simplify it to get it to just send 1 character that I actually can receive without junk. I live in the Houston, TX area and I know there are other around here. There is even a user group of us. I think I might be further ahead though.
