Hi all. I am trying to get my reprap working with the Wade's extruder. I am using the Gen3 electronics as well. I want to have the extruder controller actuate the stepper motor rather than a DC motor. Has anyone had success with this? Do I need to rebuild the firmware myself or is there a solution already? I've tried changing the MOTOR_STYLE define to 2 in the Configuration.h file but am still hby zeneslev - General
So tonight I watched my machine go through the part where it usually screws up and I found out what's causing the axis shift. I have towering enabled in skeinforge. The problem is that my machine crashes right into a part that was just towered! This causes the extruder to shift a little bit because my Z axis is not designed to resist movement in the X direction! However this is a problem with skeby zeneslev - General
Thanks for the replies. I'll make sure to check the gcode later today. I really doubt it is something mechanical. I've taken apart the x axis and put it back together and I still get this problem. The parts are not warping upward because I have a heated build platform. I am actually using a mcwire repstrap to build these parts, so it takes damn forever!by zeneslev - General
Hi all. I am tring to print a z leadscrew base on my repstrap. It's a fairly large piece and the build time on my machine is about 4 hours. I've tried three times to build the piece, and each time about 2 hours into the build, the x axis shifts over about 3 millimeters, screwing up the whole build. This is not a mechanical problem because the error occurs each time in the same place. Does anyoneby zeneslev - General
btw I am using gen3 electronics with the makerbot plastruder mk4 on a mcwire base.by zeneslev - Controllers
Hi all. I've been messing around with replicatorg and I have noticed that sometimes during the build, my extruder simply stops extruding! Nothing in the gcode says turn the extruder motor off but it does anyway. Does anyone know of issues that would cause this? Thanks for responses!by zeneslev - Controllers
Particularly the voltage regulator and microcontroller heat up immensely. I don't see any shorts with my naked eye.by zeneslev - Controllers
Hi all. One of the stepper motor driver that I received is not working on my machine. My X axis stepper motor driver gets very hot when I plug it in to my power supply and does not actuate the X stepper motor when asked to. Is there a common problem here that I am running in to or is my driver most likely broken? Thanks.by zeneslev - Controllers
Hi all. Can someone explain to me why here a sanguino is connected to the motherboard while here it seems that there is a surface mounted atmega644 already on the board? I'm guessing that the first image was to an earlier version of the motherbord, but the earlier version of the motherboard in the backlinks still has that smd chip? Thanks.by zeneslev - Controllers
Today I bought some 1/4" fuel line and some hose clamps. I fastened them to the motor and lead-screw and it seems to be a really good connection. Thanks for the suggestion guys!by zeneslev - Mechanics
Thanks for the responses. I'll try out the fuel line + bailing wire approach. I was also worried that I'd have to make the motor shaft dead center on the leadscrew, but with the tubing I feel a bit better about the relaxed constraints.by zeneslev - Mechanics
Hi all. I am in my final stages of building my mcwire based printer! As of now, I do not have the stepper motors connected to the leadscrews on the stages. I can't seem to find a good connection for them. On the mcwire site, the suggested connection is made using aquarium tubing. I went out and got some but I can't for the life of me use it to attach the motor to the drive system. It simply doesby zeneslev - Mechanics

Hi all. I've downloaded the dxf files for the xy and z stages. I imported them into solidworks because I want to get a feel about how everything is put together as I make a list of the things I need to get. I have seem to run into a discrepancy with the fastener sizes however. Can someone help me resolve this? I have been following the BOM on the mcwire build site and I notice that there are onlby zeneslev - General
Alright, I guess I'll just have to look around for a place that makes them. So more importantly, how much should I expect to pay for lasercut acrylic? Thanks in advance.by zeneslev - General
Hi everyone. I am going to start to build the mcwire 3d printer to eventually make the parts to make the reprap. So... I am going to start with the mcwire printer. I think I have the electronics under control, but I don't know where to begin with the mechanical parts. I don't have any serious machining equipment at home or a local parts supplier other than a hardware store. My plan is to get eby zeneslev - General
