Thanks! That's what I needed.. so it looks like either I built my machine backwards (not really possible I think) or the instructions for the "rework" parts instruct you to set the endstops at the wrong location... Well, plus side is that I already have max endstops installed for my X and Y axes.by NathanB - General
I have what is definitely a really stupid question, but I want to know anyway. Where should I set my home location? From what perspective is 0,0,0 at? Does it matter? For instance, right now, my home location is the top-right of my build platform. From normal mathematics, I would expect home to be bottom-left.. I know this is stupid, but I want to make sure this is right... Thanks.by NathanB - General
Steve, That would be really helpful - especially the bed utilizing the LM8UU bearings. Thanks!!by NathanB - General Mendel Topics
Thanks Steve. I already looked up the rod sizes for vanilla i3 and reworked i3. I guess I was asking more for anyone's personal experience in if the sgrabber frame files needed to be modified for the larger threaded rod in the rework build - also if, overall, there weren't other size changes necessitated by using the rework parts (like a change in the lengths of the rod used). I do appreciateby NathanB - General Mendel Topics
Hi- I'm trying to lasercut my own frame using sgrabber's parts (github) (thingiverse) My issue is that I want to use the i3 rework printed parts and I'm having some difficulty trying to determine what diameter and length of smooth & threaded rods to buy. SGrabber lists to just follow the normal i3 box frame assembly - and I've heard that others have done it with rework'ed parts. However I'by NathanB - General Mendel Topics
Hi- I work near Hagerstown every day and would love to get together with someone else interested in Reprap! I'm taking some time off of my build to work on a CNC kit I recently purchased from a Kickstarter project, but could bring my build along with the new parts I would like to add and we could work together- Let me know or PM me... I'm on here just about every day...by NathanB - Baltimore/Wash. DC (and environs) RUG
Thanks for the help - I'm using Makergear hot end and it seems to be working fine... but I do think that the hobbed bolt's teeth might be a bit clogged... I'll clean that out tonight when I get back from work and give it a go... thanks for the advice-by NathanB - General
I'm so so close to printing up properly now - but have run into one last snag... The idler seems to be the issue - When I'm trying to print, the filament isn't being fed fast enough... Then when it retracts the filament, it tends to retract too far and pop the filament out of the extruder... I've tried switching up the springs and the bolts that go into the idler... right now I'm using just 2 bby NathanB - General
Oh, thought you meant the potentomiter on top.. I had it on 1/16th microstepping and recently changed it to 1/8th to see if that would help... It didn't...by NathanB - General
I can't tell what the Pololu is set to really... The POT just spins and doesn't stop at either extreme, so I can't tell how high it is.. It works and doesn't stall or bind up, so that's good... The e_steps_per_unit is set to around 700 -which seems to be enough plastic when it comes out - but it usually strips before putting out enough...by NathanB - General
No, I'm trying to print using pronterface... Thinking its firmware settings that might need changed... Side Note: Every time I try to turn off acceleration in Sprinter by commenting out the line in configuration.h like it says, it throws a compile time error... I don't necessarily need accelleration right now... Thought it would help to turn it off, but I've been unable to thus far..by NathanB - General
It seems now like my extruder is trying to move too quickly... Its like it is spinning so fast that I think it is stripping the PLA filament and it doesn't extrude properly then... where can I turn this thing down... the axes move properly and at a fine speed, but the extruder spins like crazy... My problem now is that the hobbed bolt is stripping the filament and I'm not getting anything beingby NathanB - General
What you want to do if you're not using endstops is go into the pins.h file and look for the following: x_min_pin 18 or something like that... change it to something like this: x_min_pin -1 //18 So comment out the old pin assignment and change it to -1 so the firmware doesn't keep looking for endstops... Make sure your min_software_endstops = true... other than that... in Skeinforge usby NathanB - RAMPS Electronics
So let me get this straight - lower FPDR = more extruded plastic? Is that right?by NathanB - General
rhmorrison: I'm already using Pronterface, but thanks... never had any luck with reprap host software or anything else... Pronterface worked from the start. Thanks for the help - give me 8 hours or so and I'll give this a shot tonight when I'm back from work... I really appreciate the help!by NathanB - General
rhmorrison, Just to be sure - you were measuring the amount of filament EXTRUDED from the machine, or the amount PULLED INTO the extruder? I ask as I know that there is a distinction somewhere - though I'm assuming that this might not be relevant as I believe it has something to do with Skeinforge...by NathanB - General
rhmorrison, That's under the speed tab in Skeinforge, right? If so, I'm running around 30.. Or is that in the firmware? If it is, I haven't changed it then from the default value.. brnrd: When I turn it by hand what will that tell me? Should I count the turns of the big wheel or the smaller one? Once I get a ratio of gear turns to length of extruded filament, what do I do with that? Sorrby NathanB - General
So, during my trial and error, I've already tried all around 700 for e_steps_per_unit in Sprinter and am not getting the correct amount of extrusion... Is it the Filament Packing Density Ratio? I think I had it down around .86 or so...by NathanB - General
My extruder is Wade's Extruder, and yes - motor driver is set at 1/16 stepping..by NathanB - General
Okay, so I've upped the e_steps_per_unit a lot with no result... I think the problem might be with my Skeinforge settings... Brnrd: What should I be doing to the filament packing density to up the amount of plastic being put out? Should lowering it raise the plastic output? Everything works right... it's just not working together right... I really don't understand what I'm doing wrong here.by NathanB - General
Germanicus- Thanks so much! I was afraid to up the e_steps_per_unit that far.... the default value was like 16 or 32 or something... I thought something was wrong when I was up to 750 and it still wasn't right.... I very much appreciate the help!by NathanB - General
QuoteAnthong Redbeard When you are in repsnapper can you get it to extrude at a rate you expect? Make sure Dimension is enabled with add flowrate in skeinforge. What material are you extruding and at what temp? Verify your thermistor tyoe and that's the one you have set in the configuration.h firmware I'm using Printrun from Kliment and it seems to be extruding about half of what I tell itby NathanB - General
So I've got my Prusa up and running now and have ran into some issues. I'm not sure if it is a problem with the firmware or with my Skeinforge settings... I'm running RAMPS V1.3 with Sprinter and Skeinforge 41... The problem is that when I go to try to print something, not enough plastic comes out... I keep changing the e_steps_per_unit in sprinter configuration.h, but I've up'ed it to around 75by NathanB - General
So as far as the extruder not putting out enough plastic - what should I be looking at? the E_Steps_per_mm setting? or is there somewhere else I can look into that?... I think someone on IRC told me about a calculator somewhere for this sort of thing... should I be using that? (I think I can dig up that link again).. Thanks-by NathanB - General
Hi everyone- Through the help of many different people on the forums and IRC and in my local RUG I have managed to source and build my printer... have built the electronics and finally got my wiring issues straightened out... Tonight I tried my first print though and have seen several issues.. I'm using a Makergear hotend with Wade's Geared Extruder and 3mm PLA to start with... My problems begby NathanB - General
Mecano, Under the pins.h file, you have to un-comment the line for RAMPS V1.3 - I found this out a while ago... Maybe that's your problem?by NathanB - RAMPS Electronics
SD support seems to be the next big step to RepRap electronics... I can't wait to see this come to fruition... Best of luck Kliment!by NathanB - RAMPS Electronics
I have to reiterate first reply. Flux is your friend. Watch some YouTube videos on surface-mounting components... It'll change how you work on your soldering projects!by NathanB - Sanguino(lolu)
Thank you, but I already have my build platform attached. I'm referring to the other thick sheets - for mounting the electronics to and such... I have several pieces of laser cut MDF and I can't find anywhere where it shows how/where to attach these.. Thanks!by NathanB - General Mendel Topics
