Thank you Greg, exactly what I was looking for.by pierce - For Sale
Hey Greg/everyone, Can't believe I have had my printer from you for over a year! It's still going strong. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for a part to have a fan directed at my print? Been looking around but can't seem to find any that look like that would be good for this setup. thanks, Pierceby pierce - For Sale
Thanks this answered a question I was coming on here to ask, just switched out my nozzle to a .8 and the layer height of .6 just never seemed to work out. In my G-code the lines were along the lines of "G1 Z1.100 F6000.000" Ill try and adjust the firmware and see if this resolves the issue. I did increase the voltage and that helped a bit.by pierce - For Sale
I have one of his kit's and its been a great learning experience. If you want to avoid the ebay tax have a look here: or look in this forum's for sale section and he is there as well and you can see others replies and they verdict on the various kits he sells. Top tip, go for the e3d whatever you do.by pierce - Prusa i3 and variants
Yup, that was my feedback to Greg as well. And since then he now has that facebook album of pictures which pointed out the things I had got wrong but somehow still all works! Its great asking for a build guide but I know I never document anything at work unless audit are on me for it. Plus it is an open source model/design so I did find a few good links(I think I posted them earlier in this threby pierce - For Sale
Mine is identical to yours, and is the mirror image of Greg's pictures. mine is also in orange wonder if that means anything. also my first few prints were mirror images because I had X and Y wired up wrong so its easily done :-)by pierce - For Sale
Yay you made the same assumption as me when I built this :-) You see the flappy hinge bit in picture 2, you have a bolt and then nut on the end, you just need a bolt that fits in, no extra nut, and it shouldn't stick out the other end. Seems illogically but works perfectly well and wont fall out at all. also take a look at Greg's photo album here: Makes life a lot easier getting some detailed pby pierce - For Sale
Cool Ill have to give octopi a go. I posted this on reddit a month ago even .1 layer height works better than I expected (I was using .4 for over 2 months and still thought it was great). there are quite a few useful tips and tricks from peoples comments/critiques of the print that might help, who knew that smaller layer height it should be a bit cooler for example.by pierce - For Sale
Most filament is 2.85mm from their spec's so that might give you even better results although always worth checking with calipers if you have them, I had a cheap roll that varied greatly. I was printing with layer height of .4 as well until I tried Cura and it told me with a .4 nozzle I should do a layer height of .32(or something) as a maximum. although it takes longer at least it looks a bitby pierce - For Sale
I might have to do something similar, I was trying to be all neat and everything so cabled tied both Z and X to top left corner. thanks for the picture! Good to see we both have the lovely orange versionby pierce - For Sale
Random question. So been printing happily for a few months now but i just noticed today the way I have my cables running is that very occasionally they are getting caught between hotend mount and Z threaded rods, no damage or anything but it has made me think. Has anyone found any good cable management solutions? Or have I just cable tied it to the wrong bit(top left corner)!by pierce - For Sale
Have you installed the Ardunio driver? That's what caught me out (commenting as I found this via google search)by pierce - General
Quotegcolbourn I've put some pics of the printer from different angles to help as a build guide on the facebook page - www.facebook.com/SemiU.co.uk Thanks for doing this Greg, I know I pestered you a few times during my build for random pictures, and now I see I have 1 or 2 things to tweak!by pierce - For Sale
Thanks for the link Greg! Using repetier host so not really using Slic3r apart from tweaking the odd setting.by pierce - For Sale
Quick question, I see that you said you can split the STL file of the parts, I am completely clueless and have no idea how to do this. I just wanted to print a spare set of gears!by pierce - For Sale
Don't worry freezing, at least you got them wired up right, nothing worse than that grinding sound as it keeps trying to ''home" itself!by pierce - For Sale
I have the e3d HotEnd on mine, using Pla at 195c.the first batch of pla didn't print as easily as this new batch I have! Although with all the tweaking I have no idea if the Filament is actually the problem. I really should retry but I got the colour sample pack from faberdashery so been going through all of those colours! AAlso when I first got the printer, I used default temp setting of 200 aby pierce - For Sale
I'll see what I can do about youtube, might have to tidy up the flat first! (edit does this help: ) So I am using repetier host as it had the more user friendly interface and being new to all of this I like 'user friendly', the default print speed options for slicer felt like my printer was going to tear itself apart, however after tightening up every bolt and making sure I had my fan on the elby pierce - For Sale
Hey Luke, I had same issue, turns out you really need that fan on the electronics to keep it running smooth! Since then no missed steps, although I did need to make sure my belts were tight (but not too tight) and all works fine now. Greg, have the printer working brilliantly now, moved it back up to full/default speed and I have no idea how it moves so fast and keeps printing. still some workby pierce - For Sale
For anyone stumbling on this post. I just swapped the cables. Then tested to ensure that the end stop worked as expected (manually held the endstop button down tried to move in the negative direction). I am glad I tested this as I also needed to re-wire the end stops! Which is obvious when you think about it. All still working well!by pierce - General Mendel Topics
Hey tecnogave, Sorry should have checked the option for 'email me about replies'. My only issues with kit (electronics came in ardunio box and looks legit to me with markings and everything, if there is a way of making sure happy to check). was two bags of screws/bolts were missing, emailed received in 2 days. The screws were to hold the hotend to the mount and as I didn't check when I receivedby pierce - General Mendel Topics
I brought my kit from here: Notice it has lots of detailed info, but was still lacking in a few places, also used and various youtube videos for assemblyby pierce - General Mendel Topics
Hey, So finally managed to get my printer working well and printing like a trooper. However I have just printed out a phone case and realised the holes for audio connections are reversed. Looking some more and I think I have my X and Y wired up wrong. So if I just swap the connections on the board is the printer going to forgive me for this silly mistake or am I going to run into more issues/prby pierce - General Mendel Topics
Thanks for the kind offer, I have at least 3 brands of filament already so I don't think that was the cause! Just managed to print a 20mm hollow cube without issue(apart from the top of the cube having a few gaps which I think is a mix of speed and layers as it was only 2). cleaning out the hot end resulted in a few black specs which was first filament I used and a bit of blue, also printing aby pierce - General Mendel Topics
I will bump it up to 195C for printing and try to give it a clean out as well see if that helps. Thanks again! I just have a feeling I am missing something obvious now, it seems like a good piece of kit, and if I raise the hot end and 'air extrude' it seems to work ok (although not at 185 :-) ) The set was this one if you are interested:by pierce - General Mendel Topics
I certainly can, attached. If you want to see anything else just let me know happy to snap away. i just moved the fan from front on to the side to see if that helped cooling from your previous cooling as there is the holder directly behind it. Tried 185C print and it jammed instantly, think I need a bit more temperature to get it printing for this PLA at least.by pierce - General Mendel Topics
Attached is a pic of the last two bits of filaments when it jammed. Trying to measure the expanded bit at the ends and it looks like its about 5mm long. Will try the temprature lower, was on 200C as the default but tried it all the way up just to see what effect if any it would have. thanks again for your help with this.by pierce - General Mendel Topics
So used a different filament, turned heat up to 230C and got maybe 15-20 layers done before it jammed up, tried some other filament, 2-3 layers then it jammes up. Have gone through 5 different filament colours Blue PLA 3mm provided with printer, at 230 managed 15ish layers of a calibration stepped cube, then started to fail everytime Black PLA 3mm, from amazon print me 3d, same few layers then hby pierce - General Mendel Topics
Wow re-reading my last reply sorry for the terrible English, I wont reply via my phone again that's for sure. So gears sticking, as 3dKarma predicted the large gear had a slightly squished base layer, this resulted in it sticking out ever so slightly and catching on the small gear attached to the motor, filing this off and the motor has not got 'stuck' since. Still looking into filament, seemsby pierce - General Mendel Topics
There is a cooling fan on the barrel of the extruder so don't think that's an issue. MY gears one the large ones Base Layer was slightly larger and catching, I have filed it away and need to re test if this helps. Have also tried loose and tight on the pins (do you have a recommendation?) have a loose 10m sample pla just loose so should be no pull on anything, but previously had setup a 100mby pierce - General Mendel Topics
