I'm not aware of any reason why the £0.42 device would not work. The axial arrangement of the leads might make it a bit more difficult to attach securely without shorting, or not, depending on the approach you take. I'll note that the leads are much thicker than the leads on the more expensive bead style device, but I don't think in this application the difference would be significant. Traumflug: First, let me apologize. I never intended to accuse you of not reading the license. I was responding to two different posts and neglected to indicate that in my post. The first part of my post (a link to the MakerBot page and a quote pulled from that page) was intended to be a response to your claim that MakerBot did not acknowledge the RepRap project as its inspiration. The secondby madscifi - Administration, Announcements, Policy
See QuoteHistory CupCake CNC and MakerBot in general are a derivative of the RepRap project. The concern that MakerBot is somehow violating the GNU license is misplaced. The license says nothing about names used, etc. Please read carefully the license in question before raising something as a possible violation. It looks like the specific URL I had been using broke sometime in the last week or so - mostly likely the form of the request I was using was never really valid. Sebastien, the one you provided works and it is much better than what I was using before (which did not show all of the replies, only new topics) - Thanks! I'd like to request some consideration be given to restoring the top level RSS feed (or otherwise providing a method of easily viewing all new messages created in the previous day or so). I miss the global RSS feed... Jimby madscifi - Administration, Announcements, Policy
107K means that the part is 100,000,000 pf (10 x 10^7 pf), or 100uf, and K specifies +- 10% (See the Capacitor Markings section of the Capacitor entry on Wikipedia). This is a case where the precise value is not very important. A +- 20% part is fine. The mod will probably work reliably even if the capacitor is removed completely (although that is not certain in the face of a SD card being pluggedby madscifi - Controllers
Take a look at HeeksCad. It is still in heavy development, but it has made significant progress in the last 6 months and it is capable of generating the type of milling operations suggested by your post.by madscifi - CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping
R1 acts as a pull-up resistor. The H21LOB uses an open collector output, so when the output is supposed to be low, the output transistor is turned on (causing the line to go low). However, when the output is supposed to be high, the transistor turns off and the output "floats". R1 is what causes the output to go high when the transistor turns off.by madscifi - Controllers
QuoteKeithSloan Could you not modify the EMC extension to just use the Extruder Controller for controlling the heater on/off/temp. i.e. ignore motor control. When it sends it a command to set the temperature via the serial link does it then wait for a reply via the serial link. Same question with heater on/off Yes. It is on the list of things to do...by madscifi - General
You can always use EMC to control the stepper in the extruder directly (see David Carr's website). I borrowed the idea for my setup. You are correct that most mills simply do not have the acceleration/speed required to print in a timely fashion. I'm using a Taig and can print what I think are good pieces at about 6mm/s. A Mendal frame vertex using 0.35mm layers and a 30% fill takes about 6 hourby madscifi - General
Tim - Interesting. It seems that I've been looking at the problem the wrong way around. More tests are needed. It does lead me to think that building a Mendel is the easiest way to speed up printing, as the Taig is not designed for high rates of acceleration. Sebastien - I don't really have anything useful to add to the Taig page at this point, but I will see what I can do in the next coupleby madscifi - EMC2
This last week I finished my EmcRepStrap build and have successfully printed a variety of objects. It consists of a geared stepper driven extruder on a CNC'd Taig and it is controlled using the approach discussed by David Carr (the stepper motor in the extruder is directly controlled by EMC2). I'm able to get what I think are reasonable prints, but only if I restrict the maximum velocity to arouby madscifi - EMC2
I'm not qualified to say whether or not the specific motors would work well for building a RepRap as there are many things to consider, but if your driver board will work with a 4 wire stepper it will also work with a 6 or 8 wire stepper (assuming the driver can deliver sufficient current). The reverse is not necessarily true. A 4 wire motor only works with a bipolar driver board. 6 and 8 wireby madscifi - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
