> ... the arduino stops sending any commands ...
I now have the problem described above. Has anyone ideas on the source of the problem? Should we move this topic to Electronics?

> pebbly surface
The movement in X and Y is not smooth and I think the pauses are the source of the uneven surface. It may be because I get communication errors every few seconds. One of my jobs is to hunt these down. The overhang of the extruder from the x axis gantry amplifies any jerks in the y direction. The vertical line down the side of the minmug is due to the pause between layers whe

We have a first minimug! Sharpening the screw was probably the key change but the adjustment of the pressure on the roller is still very sensitive to get a balance between slipping and stalling the motor.
The leak problem returned and I have, I hope, fixed it by improving the clamping of the PTFE tube into the extruder. I have fitting a ring round the washer on the back of the heater barrel so

I had the heap overflow problem when printing the minmug using software version reprap-host-src-20080523 and found that on each ring of the mug, with the simulation switched off, I was losing about 20Mbytes. The garbage collect in the betweenLayers() method of Reprap.java did not help because it was called only once during the production of minmug.
I have since looked at the code and see that be

I would appreciate any advice on getting the laser-cut extruder to work. I am using HDPE at 240 degrees and I think this temperature is correct as I have checked it at room temperature and 100 degrees. Earlier, when the extruder was leaking, only 20% came out through the nozzle but the filament was being driven by the screw feed and I made a reasonable first attempt at the 'minimug'. Now I have f

I have just broken extruder parts 1 and 5 where the nuts from the motor are located. I can attach the motor section with an aluminium bracket but the option to buy replacements would be appreciated.

Thanks for that info. I was looking for a solution in the wrong place.

RepRap Host
I have set IdleZAxis to 'true' in preferences and with debug 'on' I get a message which suggests the idle request has been sent to the Arduino but the stepper drives stay on.
Would someone confirm that this does work. Any suggestions would be appreciated as the Z stepper drive gets rather hot.

RepRap Host
When I run RepRap host, I have to select CAPA or PDMS. I have a coil of ABS from 'The RepRap Research Foundation' and I wonder if someone will point me to information on how to set up the parameters for this material, including the startup choice above. Any advice to a beginner on using ABS would be appreciated.

Plastic Extruder Working Group
I have a few more notes from my assembly attempt which may help others:
For the Y drive, I found the belt was out of alignment if I followed Y_assembly.pdf. I replaced the nut and spacer on the motor drive by a washer.
In the Z belt tensioner (Z sub-assemblies.pdf), I added washers on each side of the bearing to make enough space for the belt.
The slot in the bed frame for the Z flag needed a

My build from laser-cut parts is going well but I cannot play the Extruder Drive Assembly Tutorial from BitsFromBytes. I have tried using Linux and 3 varieties of Windows operating systems but the playback always stops after 1 min 53 seconds. The Heater Barrel Tutorial works fine.
Does this Flash movie work for anyone else? Any hints towards seeing the remainder of the tutorial would be apprecia

Reprappers
The Windows host jar file, reprap-host-20080523.zip, has a file rr-logo-green-url.png missing from directory /org/reprap/gui/botConsole/
The host program still runs but there is a null-pointer exception at start up and BotConsole is missing.
The missing file is present in the source distribution and can be copied from there.

Does anyone have have any notes or drawings to help assemble the Y axis drive?

Assembly from laser cut parts is in progress. I have two minor problems to share with other builders:
The shaft of the Z stepper motor does not reach the grub screw inside parts 34 and 35 of Z_Sub-Assemblies.pdf. Swapping the positions of parts 33 and 35 seems to solve the problem. Part 35 needs a hole drilled in the edge to allow access by an Allen key to make it similar to the drawing.
