Okay, problem solved - I did not open the "Marlin.ino" file before trying to compile. Sorry, all - I'm still pretty new to this...by Rich K. - Reprappers
I am trying to update my Melzi firmware to use Nophead's fork, for my Mendel90 project. When I run the Arduino software that I downloaded from Nophead's link, following the instructions in the Mendel90 build manual as to board type and COM-port settings, I get the following error when it tries to compile: core.a (main.cpp.o) in function 'main': C:\Program Files\Arduino\hardware\Melzi\cores\arduby Rich K. - Reprappers
I finally have most of the parts that I need to build my Mendel90, with the exception of the MDF - I just got my hardware kit and other assorted parts from Nophead in today's mail, along with my EBay "Elecfreaks" Melzi board (having a problem getting Arduino to compile, though, so I can update my firmware to Nophead's Marlin fork...keeps saying something about "undefined reference to setup" and "by Rich K. - Mendel90
Quotelions3 My Mendel90 uses 0.5 inch MDF. I've had it for almost 2 years now without any real issues. I went to a hardware store and purchased a small can of black paint & primer in one. Used a roller and put two coats on. No biggie and haven't had any issues since. ...one thing, order a dibond sheet from nophead for the Y carriage. It's much more sturdy than what I used for the first 6by Rich K. - Mendel90
Okay, this may seem like a dumb question, but how do I tell which side of my Mk2B heated bed is up? Mine isn't labeled, that I can see, and both sides are silk- screened.by Rich K. - Controllers
I just purchased a MK2B dual-power heated bed to use on my Mendel90 project, using a 12-volt power supply (hacked ATX 600 watt PSU). What value/type/voltage/etc. LED and resistor should I use on it? Anything that Radio Shack would have on the shelf, since we have one in town? Yeah, I know they're optional, but it would be nice to have a visual indication that the bed is turned on.by Rich K. - Controllers
I wanted to go with the Melzi because that is what Nophead recommended for the Mendel90 - IIRC from his blog, he started with RAMPS or something similar and switched to Melzi. One thing about the Melzi is it will handle more current for the heated bed, apparently. Also, the Melzi is an "all-in-one" package with no seperate stepper drivers and wiring it up is easier. I decided to go agead and tryby Rich K. - Controllers
Thanks, Chris. Something else I am wondering is, would it help anything, or at least not hurt anything, to glue the seams on the MDF with something like carpenter's glue, in addition to screwing the frame together with the printed brackets? Seems like it would be much more rigid that way.by Rich K. - Mendel90
The original specs for the Mendel90 "sturdy" call for 12mm MDF. Now, I live in the USA and 12mm MDF is a rare bird, but I can easily - and fairly cheaply - get 1/2" (12.7mm) MDF from Home Depot (my nearest supplier). My printed parts set, which I bought on EBay, is set up for 12mm. Has anybody successfully used 1/2" MDF with a printed kit meant for 12mm? What did you have to do to get it to work?by Rich K. - Mendel90
I am slowly putting together a Mendel90 ("sturdy" version). Once it is finished and up and running, of course, the first thing on the agenda will be to print up a complete set of spare parts. One thing I am wondering is, how possible, or even practical, would it be to print out the gears in nylon - even, say, in weed-trimmer string? I know my Chinese Sieg X2 mini-mill came with nylon gears and thby Rich K. - Mendel90
On the contrary Traumflug, I DO support open source developers. In fact, I have purchased a fair number of parts directly from Chris ("Nop Head"). But since between Obamacare insurance costs and child support I only get to keep maybe 30% of the money I earn, if I want a rep rap within the next 5 years or less I sometimes need to go with a cheaper alternative and tweak it until it (hopefully) workby Rich K. - Controllers
I am in the process of building the "sturdy" version of the Mendel90, using MDF for the frame and 10mm smooth/8mm threaded rods - this will be my first RepRap, and my first hands-on experience with 3-d printing. I am on a VERY tight budget, so this is a "Johnny Cash" project - as in, "One Piece At A Time". One of the things I need is a Melzi controller. In my communications with NopHead, he tolby Rich K. - Controllers
