Is there an S-maker machine or kit to be had? Is it open source? Where can one get one?by cozmicray - Polar Machines, SCARA, Robot Arms
Wally would like the s-maker Did Wally or S-maker come out first? Moving the extruder and leaving the weight stationary on the bed seems real good design.by cozmicray - Polar Machines, SCARA, Robot Arms
I saw a working Wally at NYC Maker Faire. Why is that design not good enough to release drawings and parts? Is there some design killing change that is in the works? @Owen That Sarrus linkage in the youtube is beautiful I just may want to use that lift table. but what I have seen about the software ( and self leveling ) I like software solutions (if the common user can understand them)by cozmicray - Polar Machines, SCARA, Robot Arms
Wally Sketchup Here is a file of Wally kludged together in Sketchup-8 from released parts and drawings. I could not post big file here so I put it over on buildlog forum. Any Sketchup Xperts out there may want to fix it up. Wally 3D printerby cozmicray - Polar Machines, SCARA, Robot Arms
Guy with A1 is jon_bondy, he posted above A1 was printing up a bunch of nautilus gears during Champlain Maker fair and doing a great job You might want to look at Vermont Rapid Prototyping He has printed out a couple of guitar bodies on the A1 Sounds like a moose in heat most of the time. He is looking for another A1. If you can look at lessons learned or fixes/improvements to A1 on googletby cozmicray - Extruded Aluminum Frames
A whiteboard with all your calculations on it won't print parts. Please make a video of this drilling operation. Threads on nozzle and heater block much stronger and easily made. Please show how the heater ( resistor or cart heater) will interface to this to efficiently transfer heat. Rep Rap is printers making other printers What does this have to do with that. Drilling small holes thru a small 1/4" acorn nut NOT easy! Avoid drilling thru central hole even harder. Have you ever done any machine work? Eiminating a 2 cent block of aluminum to eliminate ALL the heat transfer Eliminating a pressure vessel that is mandatory This is NOT the place to use Play doh and tape!!!!by cozmicray - Let's design something! Why? A block of aluminum / copper with heater attached and nozzle provides a Hot zone for filament to melt and be pushed out thru nozzle. A way to transmit heat from cart heater or resistor to the fliament to be melted. Nozzle providing a small hole 0.20, 0.30, 0.35, 0.40mm for a fine extruded filament for printing? What is WRONG with the nozzle being threaded into a hot block? Looks like youby cozmicray - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
oops F for that final because you don't know your machine! Well it's like if you got something plugging up your toilet? If you can't get it going got to get a plumber? or You can back out the filament Heat up the extruder hot ~220 C push a ~ 1.75 / 3 mm rod down in the extruder pump out the crap. So you want a high end sooper dooper printer? "large allthread framed duel headed printer " ??What is "allthread" ?leadscrews" ??What do you mean by framed? You are running the olympic 100m before you can crawl. The makibox heated stage will be sufficient for small ABS prints. Are you willing to wait perhaps 6-8 months for a makibox delivery? It depends if you want to print or build. You should get a kit, you can build it up quickly and along the way learn the ins / outs of 3D printing machine and realize improvements / fixes. Then get to the real frustration 3D printing Extruder hassles, 100s of parameters to set, Kilometers of filament thru the extruder and one or two good prints Do you want to spend your time developing a prinby cozmicray - General
I have followed the A1 for a while and have a friend that has one of the B2 models. Lot of lessons learned in the Trinitylabs story and the Goggletalk forum has a great amount of information that can be incorporated into a design. When is Wally's Beta release Wally's like a movie star after the NYC MF Film festival So are there CAD files for Wally? Wally assembly drawings? BOM? I think you said Wally was in a CAD package? I can't see how one can drive the bolt with the filament right next to it I suppose the filament could bend into the drive well below long screw under drive gear. This would be a "worm drive" One may want a worm gear set with filament between? I think 4000rpm would shoot out filament in a great volume? Let's say you used a M10 threaded bolt 1 rev would advance filament about 1.0mm inch 4000rpmby cozmicray - Mechanics
I consider an extruder HOTEND and COOLEND (mechanical pusher) My take is heating / cooling of the HOTEND. So a HOTEND with just a heater has NO active "cooling" Putting a fan or other heat extraction device is COOLING the HOTEND or a section of the HOTEND to either control the melt volume or prevent heat leakage to other components. Putting energy into HOTEND to heat it, and using more eneby cozmicray - General
I got a mBot Mk 7 all metal QU-BD type extruder hot/cold end Pix MK7-1 shows it with controllable cooling fan to cool PLA below nozzle Seems like now even mBot uses plastic parts I have QU-BD extruder that has screw that is used adjust pressure to push filament against hobbed gear without a roller or ball bearing in there it does't work very well There is no adjustment for filament agby cozmicray - General

I have done many multi hour prints with an all metal QU-BD extruder Yes I have had extruder problems but I did not have a problem with the hotend heating the cold mechanics and overwhelming the motor and gear air cooling RP Iron man pointed out all the details of hot extrusion, which I have read before and all those little gotchas in the process can ruin a nice print. No I haven't designed a 3D printer hot end but I have been involved in a lot of designs for spacecraft Keeping hot things from getting cold, keeping cold things from getting hot Isolation and insolation is the key Preventing heat flow in or out. Why does a QU-BD type extruder, with hotend 1.5" from mechanics work so well --- without water cooling A fan blowing on gear and motor provides goodby cozmicray - General
Seems like these are concrete anchor product with NO Spec for thread quality control. "They can be used in any fastener situation and excell in use as concrete forming systems." I would think Z movement may need a bit more precise action? Z-axis leadscrews on my Ordbot have probably got most of my frustration But I am sure you will make up a nut and write software to make them work!!!by cozmicray - Mechanics
It would be nice to have a delran / nylon nut for these Or better an anti-backlash nut. The Solidoodle uses a lift bed with leadscrew and early customers added anti-backlash fixes.by cozmicray - Mechanics
You must start the process of adjusting and calibrating your extruder. That gear in your mechanical extruder doesn't always push the filament correctly Adjust idler pressure on gear The gear could be just chewing up filament Clean gear and adjust Your hotend Not hot enough Adjust temperature Inside of your Hotend (the tube that carries the filament) is not smooth enough Clean out &by cozmicray - General
I have to Laugh! A Hotend --- that has to be Cooled? One can't isolate a HOT area from the mechanics (that like to be cool) without active cooling you got to be kidding --- and NOT doing a good design? Pour power in to heat a section of the Hotend and pouring more energy in to pull out heat to cool it down WHATS NEXT --- Active Cryogenic cooling?by cozmicray - General
"the motivation for my design was to create something that required minimal tools to assemble and used relatively easy to source parts" Right? got to chuckle at that --- a new development --- early 3D printer development?
