Great links. Thanks! Kevinby kdtop - Reprappers
I had never worked with any CAD before, so OpenSCAD was really the first thing I tried after Blender. And since it worked for me, I stayed. I am a programmer, so it fit my way of thinking. But I agree that it won't be for everyone. I think that one of OpenSCAD's problems is that when one opens a file, all those lines can be very intimidating. It was to me, anyway. But then I started makingby kdtop - General
Slic3r has a "vase mode" where it prints the object as a continuous spiral. That will prevent that messy glob where it jumps up to the next higher level.by kdtop - General
Try getting Cura as your slicer. I typically run about 30 mm/s speed for prints that I want reasonable quality on,by kdtop - General
I'm note sure what you mean by "shell and STL", but I create my STL's with OpenSCAD. I started with Blender and struggled to figure out dimensions. I then tried out OpenSCAD, and it was as easy as: cube([10,10,10]); //to make a cube 10 mm x 10 mm x 10 mm. Kevinby kdtop - General

This is very interesting. I agree that the pin 5 must have been connected to ground, and I just couldn't see it when the receptacle got torn off. Can you tell me more what "Eagle" is? And by "PCB", is that the view that I posted? Thanks Kevinby kdtop - Reprappers
Thank you, too, Ian. I'm glad to be back in business. :-)by kdtop - Reprappers
I think it would be difficult to say that my printer is going to pay for itself. But then again, neither does a new television. And most homes get one of those. :-) For me, it is a hobby. You mentioned that you have lots of unfinished projects around the house. Any chance that a 3d printer will become just one more of those discarded projects?by kdtop - Reprappers
I have been printing for a few months now, and have never had to dissolve any filament into acetone. So perhaps you can solve your problem another way? Is the real problem that you can't get your prints to stick to the glass? I found that heating my bed up hotter (esp when using ABS), putting painter's masking tape on the surface, and making sure that the head was close enough to smear the fiby kdtop - Reprappers
For what it is worth, I really like Cura as a slicer. There are a few things that Slic3r will do that Cura won't so I go back and forth at times. But my first suggestion would be that your software is messed up, so try a different package, or reinstall Slic3r.by kdtop - Reprappers
Hey all, First time poster. I have a RepRap Mendel mono. I have enjoyed learning how to create good prints. I recently had a problem, and I wanted to share the fix with anyone else that might have the problems. I was moving my printer, and unplugged the USB cable from my computer, but I forgot to unplug the other end of the cable from the USB receptacle on the controller board.
