So I just found out last week that none of the outlets in my apartment are grounded, despite having the 3-pronged outlets. Looks like the landlord pulled a fast one on me. Does anybody have experience with running a printer without a grounded outlet? My apartment is kind of ancient and has no grounded outlets. Is it possible to run everything well shielded to itself, or is it really just askingby germanicus - General
Looking good Dan! I am also getting started, but went with a full kit from Makergear. It's good to hear that you're not having too much trouble with the electronics, it's been a while since I tinkered with microcontrollers so that the only thing I am apprehensive about.by germanicus - General
In Santa Clara. Been following reprap for a few years and finally dove in with a Prusa kit. Currently waiting for parts to arrive to begin assembly.by germanicus - California, San Francisco Bay Area RUG
@unexpectedly: What kind of CMM arm and software do you use? I use a Romer with Spatial Analyzer. Did you just grab a huge mesh of scanned points? What method did you use to expand the tank size? I ordered a kit about a week ago from Makergear and have been waiting eagerly to receive it and begin building!by germanicus - General
Well I guess I'm a little late in answering this one. There was a group of them in one area of the Expo Hall-techzone, Fab@Home, and a couple of others. The Techshop building had the BitsFromBytes group. I couldn't find Makerbot when I was there today, maybe they were only there on Saturday?by germanicus - General
Wow, I hadn't really considered the speed factor of belts vs. screw drive. I know that standard CNC mills use ball screws and can move at a really surprising clip- upwards of 50 mm/sec. what kind of speed are the belt driven repraps capable of?by germanicus - Reprappers
Another one from Santa Clara... I'm going to start with the extruder, as I'm still mulling ideas for the cartesian bot. I'd appreciate it if someone could mail me a couple samples of filament to work with...by germanicus - California, San Francisco Bay Area RUG
Hi all... I have been following the reprap project for some time now and am finally ready to get my feet wet. I would like to make a working extruder first, but I need some filament to prototype with. I am leaning towards ABS or HDPE. I would be very grateful if anyone could send me a sample (maybe 1 or 2 feet). I live in Santa Clara, California if that makes any difference...by germanicus - Wanted
