When I measure the original, it is showing a size of 1000mm (1 meter) x 300mm (30cm) So this could be considered rather large and explain why it is taking my machine a long time to slice it? Was the original designed as SI, then when opened as metric, it shows up as huge?

This is a guess, but it sounds like that is a firmware thing. The g-code is "standard." My understanding is the code says extrude, and the firmware that is specific to your machine will take all the extrude codes and sent them to your specific axis, or motor. Hope that helps; or at least points you in a better direction. Regards

While I can not confirm this in GCODE, I do know that the "enable cooling" will force the print to slow down if the layer area is under a certain size threshold. Could this be causing your issue? Regards

Carluca When I sliced your file in Slic3r in 9.9, Slic3r crashed. I ran the file through netfabb, and it did not find any errors. The file did slice in 7.2b. I loaded your STL file in Sketchup, and changed the orientation and laid it "flat;" and re-saved it. The file then did slice in 9.9. I know its not an answer, but it might be a solution. Regards

Check the cooling tab, and see if you have cooling enabled. You can try an experiment and disable cooling to see if that is overriding your speed settings. Regards

--------------------snip-------- Thanks, This would explain the problem with the x axis in Marlin, but how do you explain that I don't have the issue with Sprinter. It only is the x and yes it only does it when the x motor is running and only with bounce. I will give the shielded wire a shot. Where did you get the small connectors to connect the wires to the board? -----------------------------

Hi Fri; I had a problem similar to your a year or so ago with one of my printers. Same issue. Intermittent X switch. Swapped switch, swapped wire, then I realized it would only fail when the X motor was running. In my case the wire I was using on both the X motor, and the X Switch was (at the time) untwisted, and/or unshielded. My fix was to find an old Cat 5 ethernet cable, cut it up, and

WOW! I can say, I've not seen stringing like that. I can only offer the usual advice, try lower ABS temperature. I run at 200C - 220C. I find that a higher temp makes my ABS leak more (and cause strings) With a lower temperature, you might find you need to re-calibrate your other speeds. (slow down your infill, and perimeter speeds) In another thread I seem to recall someone saying that a

Scubasteve23 Your questions about "best" printer is a can of worms. It would be like me posting to a car forums, and asking what is the best muscle car. That being said, I am partial to the Prusa because it is what I build (made 7 so far) They have a lot of support in the community, many people have made variations, and or modifications to them. But this is my personal opinion. Much

As a follow up, I set up one the printers with a 0.5mm J Head, and recalibrate it for PLA settings. Once tuned, I fed in the laywood, and instantly was printing in wood. Having only printed with a Heatbed, and ABS on glass; I turned off the heat bed, and put down a few strips of (green) painters tape. The first print turned out fantastic. I am pleased with the results, and will add this fil

Hi, I'm looking for some advice. I've been printing exclusively with ABS for a few years and I am happy with my prints. Prusa 0.35mm J head Marlin-Slic3r-Pronterface I just received my order of Laywood, and I can not seem to print with it. The material extrudes into free air, and I can print one layer before the print fails. It seems like the nozzle clogs. I can not find much on line, but

David, Thank you for this Ruby Plugin. . I've played with this for all of 10 minutes and am having fun with it. I can see myself using this to measure the dimensions of of a finished g-code file, and compare it to both a print, and the original STL file. Thank you.

I printed some Original Prusa Parts for a friend about a year ago. She decided she no longer wanted to make her own printer, so gave them back to me. I have no need for the parts, and have listed them on Ebay with no reserve, and $1 starting bid. I would rather sell them then toss them in the pile of ABS scrap. If you are in need of spare Prusa V1 parts, or are looking to make a printer,

If you are using a RAMPs could you just swap the 2 plugs at the board to test the thermistors? If you want a quick test to see the temp rise, set Pronterface to "monitor Temp" and then I guess you could use a hair drier to quickly heat up the thermistors to watch them rise. I ruined a Brand new J head when I put 12V DC to the resistor to cure the cement, and I forgot about it. It melted the

Unlucky1, I had something similar happen to one of the printer I was assembling, and I could not understand why my temp was not rising. Do you have a way to verify you have 12V DC to the J head? In my case I had a dud power supply and it was only getting 5V to the J head. Swapping out the power supply solved my problem. Good luck

I am not near my printer, and I used a scarp of paper next to the picture of a ruler vs using my calipers, but here is a 5 minute Google sketchup STL of what might work as the Ikea part. The part I drew is not all rounded, and curved and pretty, but It should function the same. Maybe someone can take it and make it nicer. Feel free to do with this as you feel. Regards

I love making Printers. I have a newly built Prusa Hybrid for sale. It is a Hybrid of what I feel are all the best of the Prusa V1, V2, as well as upgrades on vitamins and parts, I've downloaded from Thingiverse, or all new parts I've designed and posted to Thingiverse. All the upgrades have been tested and work on my first 2 printers. This printer is the culminations of all the best ideas. T

Can you confirm the bed temp vs what Pronterface says? At 110 you should not have much if any warp.

At the Hacklab space in Toronto a few months back, I had the pleasure of seeing the hot end in action. I can vouch that while I was there the hot end worked flawlessly, and based on my conversations with aplavins and seeing several of them apart, I can see no reason to disbelieve his statements about reliability. The design is not mine to talk about, but I can say that the design is a proven
