To be honest I had just used OpenSCAD before and never had used OpenCASCADE, so I didn't really know the pros/cons of choosing one over the other. OpenSCAD is definitely a bit too slow for this kind of stuff, but it works well for experimenting.
I have actually read your comment before. For any elements of the mesh I need to read, I used CGAL, and that's why the model is loaded in .off format fi

So I've been working on some scripts in OpenSCAD and C++ , to automate testing of 3D infills, mostly cell tessellations of different polyhedra.
My approach is
- Importing a model (in .off format because CGAL, the C++ library I'm using, doesn't support .stl)
- Hollowing it out (which is giving me a bit of trouble, see below)
- Generating the infill just big enough to cover the model (the size is

I am using Slic3r, yes. That looks like it could be the problem, the bottom gear looks identical to one of mine. I'll try a different slicer soon, as my extruder is currently broken and waiting for parts, and then post back.
Thanks!

Printing
Hi everyone,
I have a Prusa i2 which has been successfully printing for a while now, but I've noticed a problem.
One of the first prints I tried, months back, was a small gear for a Wades extruder. It had an odd problem where the teeth would have a small, about 1mm, gap from the inside of the shaft. This being the only print this happened on, I forgot about it.
Recently I've been wanting to pr

That did the trick, after messing around with different loads I got it to work with just the 21W bulb on the 5V line.
Thanks for your help!

I remember reading a thread on this before. I'm pretty sure it was tried or at least after a long discussion it was concluded that the cost of the extra belts, parts, etc plus the loss of motor power and extra time you need to spend setting it up (it would be a good bit more complicated) really negated any money that was saved.

Hmm, it seems the power supply may be the issue.
I'm using a converted PC power supply, it's rated 30A on the 12V line, so there shouldn't be a problem there.
I jumpered the connection needed to turn it on and then took 4 wires of 12V and 2 of 5V, along with 6 wires of ground, out of the molex connectors. I can measure 12V and 5V from the connectors, so it is producing something.

I've tried the motors in many connection layouts and the following was the first I had tried:
Motor----------------RAMPS
Red: A+ .........1A
Green: A- .........1B
Yellow: B+ .........2A
Blue: B- .........2B
I then switched the wires as described in the wiki also.

I'm making my first build, a prusa i2.
I have motors from here and a RAMPs set from reprapdiscount on ebay.
I have my frame build and I started to wire everything up. I need to figure out the wiring sequence for the motors, but I can't get them to move whatsoever, not even a sound, or shudder. I have my RAMPs (running Marlin) connected to my computer, running linux. I have one thermistor wired

For anyone else looking I ended up getting them here
They seem to be pretty good so far, all's going smooth.

Are they still being sold on ebay? I can't seem to find any that are cheaper than a set for €40 on emaker. This is including delivery, so it's not a bad price I suppose.

Hi Guys,
I'm building a Prusa Mendel and have most of the parts ordered, just the electronics, filament and some fasteners left, but I have a problem.
I was planning to order my 8mm smooth steel rod from farnell, along with the rest of my fasteners and vitamins, because they have free shipping, but it turns out the longest rods they have are 333mm, while the Prusa needs 420mm for its longest.

The archol hotend is a bit out of my price range, considering this is my first build, but I'll keep it in mind if I ever build a higher spec reprap. So I probably will order the J-head once they're back in stock, nice to know there probably won't be customs tax on it.
As far as nozzle size goes, should I stick with .5mm or would I be able to get a .4mm, considering I'm a beginner?
Thanks for al

Reprappers
I think I will order from hotends.com, they seem to have a really good name around here. Does anyone know if I would likely to get charged by customs on the hotend, seeing as it's coming from outside Europe and is worth around €50?

Sorry, just changed 4 there, what exactly am I looking for when buying a hotend?

I'm just building my first reprap and I have pretty much all the parts sourced, but I'm still wondering about the hotend. I do plan to print ABS and possibly experiment with plastics, so heat is an issue.
First I'm looking at these hotend:

2:ebay.ie
3:ebay.ie
I'm wondering about the PTFE in their construction, will they weaken with heat during operation?

I have the same problem too :/ I'm looking for GT2 or HTD belts but I may have to go for T5 because of cost. techpaladin.com has them for a good price, with very good shipping, but they're out of pulleys right now.

Hi,
You said that you were buying GT2 belts though. The ones you linked are T5?

I'm currently building a prusa mendel, but so I'm not too sure about anything that's mendel max specific, but here's some prices and sources of materials I'm planning to order myself.
Microswitches - I'm not sure if you mean the small boards or just the switches themselves, I'm planning to DIY these, so I'm just going to pick the switches themselves up on ebay or an electronics supplier for a c

Thanks for the advice Cameron, I'm going to try and find some gt2 or htd belts with a sane delivery price.
Lodorenos, that's good to know, I'm going to wait, I won't be putting this thing together for another month or so anyway.

How many pulleys would I need to buy if I switched to gt2/htd belt? Just 2?
I've decided to settle on the hotends.com j-head with 3mm filament, makergear's shipping to Ireland is too expensive.
Thanks for your help

Thanks for the replies
I'll try and find a set of iteration 2 parts then.
I'm looking at getting a new PC power supply as none of the ones I have here are new and they would don't have enough amperage on the 12v line.
The J-head from hotends.com is currently out of stock, I may get the makergear one, it looks pretty good.
I'm going to go look around for gt2 or htd belts, I'll post back with t

Hi,
I'm trying to plan out all the parts I'm going to need for my Prusa build, but as it's my first 3d printer build, I need some input on the parts I'm going use. I'm trying to keep the build cheap which is quite difficult when delivering to Ireland.
Parts List:
Printed Parts: ebay.ie
Motors: aliexpress.com
Electronics: DIY Gen7 board with drivers from ebay.ie
Power: Spare PC supplies
