David,
I have not finished my machine yet! When I started this project I was in the middle of my masters program and then the pandemic hit which meant I had to work more (ER nurse). I just graduated and am about to start a new job so I am looking into working on this again! I hit a little bit of a snag on my extruder part. The metal pipe that it said to buy in the paper and the drill bit do not

Maybe nice to also introduce something about the machine. I have never heard about it. If this is going to be a central build topic, maybe it's an idea to have an interesting first post with info, images, links to the producer/designer of the kit etc.
Good point. I forgot to post a link here to the guide as I thought people would be coming here from my guide first. But for those f

This will be a place to post any questions that people have about the build process. I am still in process of building mine at this time and will be posting here as well until my machine and guide are complete!

So just fooling around with settings and orientation with just one revolutions worth.
Pretty good upright, ill have to go with that and add a bit more support.

thank you for the reply!
My z-axis height limitations prevent me from doing that or I would have. My z-axis is just long enough for this job so I was going to try that. I guess ill play around with it and run some tests, I just didn't want to waste some filament. If need be I can buy new rods and print out some parts to increase my z-length. I just didn't want to go through all the trouble!

So I am trying to make something and I am going to definitely need some support for this object but I haven't messed around with this feature in slicer that much. The two times that I have used it, the objects didn't turn out too too well.
Attached is the .STL file for what I want to print.
Can someone help me or give me a few tips with the best setting for slicer, if anyone has had luck or kn

Thank you James, I have everything set up correctly, I'm using a z max endstop and the z probe is my z min. I did notice that as a ran a dry practice print as the hotend was moving around my z rods were constantly spinning showing that the new compensation must have been accounted for so therefore the error must have been in my miscalculation of the distance between the hotend and the z probe. So

or should I say how do I check to make sure that it uses the new bed measurements after running g29?

so as it is right now, my start gcode has:
G21 ; set units to millimeters
M107
M140 S85 ; set bed temp
M104 S235 ; set temperature
G28 X0 ; home x axis
G28 Y0 ; home y axis
G28 Z0 ; home z axis
G29 ; auto bed level
G1 Z5 F5000 ; lift nozzle
M190 S85 ; wait for bed temp
M109 S230 ; wait for temperature to be reached
G90 ; use absolute coordinates
G92 E0
M82 ; use absolute distances for extrusion

Hello everyone!
So I just finished putting together my auto bed leveling stuff for my prusa I3. I have the auto bed level setup where the zprobe swings down from a servo mounted to the extruder and then probes the bed in 4 corners. right now after attaching the servo plate to the extruder, the extruder sits about 2mm above the bed, whereas with the stock plate it was configured to put the extru

Thanks for the reply!
It is with ABS. When you say contain the heat and chamber, do you mean to say I should enclose the printer? I have been thinking of doing that because I turn the AC way down at night, and this mostly happens when I'm printing overnight. Also you say after the first few layers I should lower the temperature of the extruder? Currently I am printing at 230 C for the whole prin

As I leave my printer going for a longer print, say 5+ hours, at some parts the layers are partially coming undone! Does anybody know what causes this and/or how I can fix thi?
Thanks,

Okay I downloaded cura and like it for the most part. But my first try of the nozzle turned out like this:
Not sure if it's just the abs or printed too fast? Will try more settings as well aaa pla tomorrow

Okay, thanks so much for all of this feedback! I will go today to pick up some sandpaper and glue. Is it just Elmer's glue then with water? I'm also going to download cura this evening and try it again! I guess I'll have to pull the pla out of the closet I packed it away in, never to be used again! I'll let you all know how it goes!

How curious?! Might I ask was this print under normal speed and temp settings? Also how do you get your pla to stick? And lastly, is cura better than pronterface/slicer? I apologize for my ignorance, as I have only been printing for a little over a month.

Oh, one other word, i was just printing out a arm piece for this action figure im making, and when it got to the finger tips (which are quite skinny and long) printing upwards in such a manner as the nozzel, the giant gear on the extruder will turn to spit out some filament, then it was make this rapid turn back in the other way, as if it is putting out filament then sucking it back up! not sure

well brainscan my plan is to make a box, a container for shampoo, at the bottom will be that nozzel to attach to a plastic hoze. I had hoped to print it all in one go, but I guess i could just glue it on with acetone. Ill try lowering my settings and see if that works.
Catfarmer, that would be great! please let me know how it turns out! I have some PLA but ive only used it once to print an iphon

Here is the config file from slicer that has the speeds and other setting in it:
And here is the stl of the object:
The nozzel is .4 on the printer if I am not mistaken. The printer has been working quite well so far. I have gotten some good quality prints, not the most perfect but good quality over all. My fear was this object was too small for the printer, but after

Hello all,
I am trying to print small nozzles to attach to some plastic tubing, they measure something like 15 or so mm high and around 8mm maybe in diameter. At first they were not sticking at all and would fail to print. Just to obtain the nozzles to test their size in the tubing I added a small 1mm tall plate under them. After doing this I was able to successfully print the nozzles every time

It's abs, at 230, bed is 110. How do I tell my layer hight and sprint speed exactly? Through slicer or pronterface? Thanks for the help!

Hello there everyone! So I finally got my 3d printer working and for the most part it is calibrated! When I went to do my first print, as satisfying as it was to actually get a print, this came out:
My thoughts are maybe my bed isn't quite leveled, or that maybe the hot end isn't pushing down on the previous layer enough? Or maybe it is just that I do not have a fan blowing on the print comi

I just edited some things in the firmware changing the size of the print area, so now the printer wont move outside of the print area even if I tell it to from pronterface. Then i tried printing again and when I press the print button, it homes, then the z-axis makes that damned noise again!

So I believe I am almost done calibrating. I have my bed leveling and I just starting doing a test print on this 5mm calibration cube 5 mm cube. I started the print without any filament in the printer just to make sure that it would work. The x and y axes are moving around like crazy as it should, but the z-axis is stuck at the top. When i started the print, the z-axes made this high pitched nois

thanks for the information! quick question though. i know the formula for the stepper motors steps per revolution, but i dont get how to find this out.
okay after looking online i think there are stickers on the motors that tell you about the turns, ill have to inspect the motors tomorrow. but i did see someone said in a post you need to put jumpers under each of your stepper chips? i saw my bag

It will home, then go back a little bit, and then slowly go towards the endstop. in that last trip back to the endstop its very sluggish and slow and the motors sounds like they are struggling. im sure that is just changing the speed or power in the firmware. but i feel so relieved t

oh man
it is working! i feel so happy! endstops are all done and working now!!!!!!!!!
I hit x-home and it goes, to the max, hits the endstop, goes away from the endstop for 2 inches then goes back to the endstop and stops!
good deal. So does this mean i am ready to set my bed size and then calibrate it with the sheet of paper then i am ready to print?

This is how my board is set up.
all of the endstops were in the (-) pins, now they are in the ones under them which are the (+). I would like to keep them from needing to be jumped and just use the firmware.
I just hit the X-home and it sent the printer towards the min and it hit the very end and kept going and grinding because it could not move, and it turned my power supply off, it stopped,
