I have had similar issues in my home cnc converted mill. It sounded as it had dirt in the bearings and I was deeply concerned how it happened. It turned out that I was pushing the stepper motors to the limit of their capacity. On a mill, there is a certain mass to move, but the similarity is that steppers make noise when too close to their limits. It can go from crushing noise to downright painfu

Thanks Downunder for taking the time to compile this!
Sooner or later, we all run into printing issues and that is when this kind of comprehensive writeup is extremely helpful.
Thanks,

Thanks for reaching out to help!
@Dave: I was thinking along those lines too, so I left "print external perimeters first" unchecked from the beginning.
@Paul: With your parameters, it got significantly better. The support was still easy to remove. Thanks!
It appears that this is a difficult part to print. It is at its widest right on top of the support structure and the perimeters are still t

Slic3r
Hi there Slic3r specialists!
Slic3r is continuously doing a great job in my Mendel 2 (from RepRapPro) setup. Although a simple printer, it performs beautifully. However, when it comes to overhangs, I have not really managed to figure out good settings. It usually ranges from bad to worse. This time, I have set as much as possible to default (zero) in the support settings. In the picture below, t

In case this helps someone else, here is what I did:
1 Replaced the nozzle with 0.3 mm. This did not help the overhang problem per se, but since it got worse with thinner layers, it might have had some effect.
2 Changed the design to incorporate vertical supports. The Slic3r supports don't adhere to the wings and so they are free to curl upwards. By designing supports into the model, they are now

Aha thanks!
Well, uploading seems to work today. Last time I tried, it would not accept anything.
It would be nice to know what people do to print overhangs successfully and what parameters that control this.
Thanks!

I can't manage to upload any pictures, but it's a simple axial fan. What do you guys do to succeed with overhangs?
Thanks!

Dear community,
I have successfully bolted together my Mendel and gone through half the calibration process with excellent results. Very happy! The half millimeter thin wall object prints perfect and I can even print the hollow cube with a perfect top surface.
On to the next challenge:
To print a model fan wheel. The profile of the fan blades is upside down aircraft wing looking and so the incl
