I allways wondered about this lathe... @sublime how accurate is this thing? could you use it to machine a hot end for example? or is its still more of a concept at this stage?

Here is my problem,
Right now I have 1 extruder on a ramps 1.4 with a fan connected to D9
I would like to move to a dual extruder setup, so what do I do with my fan?
From what I gathered so far im going to need some sort of expansion... but I have no clue how to do it, does anyone know of a site that sell expansions or with instructions on making and using them?
And what if I want to move to

I know this post is old but, It think its funny that I asked myself the same question and first link I end up with on Google is here.
Another funny fact is that I am a PRISM user! Small world!
Good idea posting your question here Buback

Hello akhlut . I agree that git can be very usefull but knowledge of how git works shouldnt be required to use the site. Thingiverse is super easy to use, anyone can just hop on and add items to their database in seconds. I remember how long it took me to conveince myself to even look closer at what github was. If we rely too much on git we will loose the masses. The Cubehero website tried hard b

Storage, however we do it is going to cost money and time. The question is how much money vs time. I think amazon may be the way to go here, its ready, easy and especially: reliable. From what i read they even seem to have free accounts, ok just a few GBs but still enough to get thins started. I wouldnt be surpirised if we did the maths and found out its cheaper to use their service then try to g

Oh i think thats a given. If it was only me the therms and conditions page would either be inexistent or simply say that everyone is responsible for what they upload on their accounts. Its not the websites job to enforce or recognize ownership of anything, for that part i would refer interested parties to the licensing therm selected by the user on their project's page.

Looking good, i like were this is going. Good work with media goblin.
I was browsing the web for other open source frameworks and it came to me that what we are looking may be much closer to a social networking website than a wiki, except in our case its the designs that have "friends". I looked at a few options out there, there's elgg.org and I also stumbled on which pretend to be a content m

Done but its a simple white page with tables as place holders.
Get it here
Maybe you can put it up somewere on that domain you registered? so everyone can look at it.
Also, I took a look at mediagoblin and honestly, were gonna need help. Im sure I can get it running but any customization to the website that cant be done via the interface will require a web developer. Also, will need help wit

I know of 3 websites that tried to replace thingiverse, one of them is , another is the pirate bay (but thats just a mess) the other I cant find anymore... but it was not a viable solution either.
They all tried to offer a solution but only have half the required features to offer a functional web site and have basicly been sitting dead in the water ever since they came out. With only a handfull

First time I hear about ABS filament not dissolving... its strange.
It really sounds like your ABS is not standard. Maybe his plastic is mixed with some additives or other plastics? I dont know much about plastic past this point.
I would ask your seller about it he may be able to help. In the mean time make some ABS juice with printer parts so you can go through that filament.
If your seller w

Oubviously something is wrong here Phizinza, either the acetone or the plastic.
Check this for a good example of abs juice: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tbuser/4380688013/
Do you see were he mentions how surprised he is how much abs can be dissolved in a small quantity of acetone? and that it only takes a few minutes to dissolve?
I suggest you troubleshoot your issue by finding some other sour

As everyone has said here there are several things that can cause this problem:
-filament is too large, measure with a caliper at several places an at different angles (filament can be oval)
-Hobbed bolt is of poor quality and doesnt have enough grip, see the following links for examples of good bolts

@weedz from what i understand sailfish is only compatible as is with makerboth hardware. It would have to be ported to work on our reprap electronics.

My Y axis driver is overheating and shutting down.
I have a small 12v 40mm fan I would like to use to cool them down but im not sure were to connect it.
I dont want to connect it to the voltage output for extruder 2 or the heat bed because I need those.
Can I simply connect the fan in parallel with the 12v input comming from the Power supply to the ramps?
More specificaly the 12-35 VDC in on t

So I thought Id check if its a generalized problem with you guys and then maybe we can discuss what can be done to help whoever is hosting this thing boost the bandwith?
Fred.
I personaly wouldn't mind donating a few bucks.

For the thin walled square, its definitly a cooling issue, I have been redoing my calibration lately and forgot to turn on my fan, it did the exact same thing.
Are you printing in ABS or PLA?
PLA definitly needs a fan, there is no way around it.

What do you mean there is no problem when you disconnect the extruder motor controller? If you just disconnected a stepper from the controller, noting is supposed to happen.
Sounds like your printer is crashing to me. I had the same problem a while back. Check that your using a shielded USB cable and may also put a ferrite around the usb cable near were it connects to your ramps. Go for the shie

Thanks for clarifying that.
But if im reading this properly does this mean our printers don't slow down before changing direction? They just interrupt the move they were doing with another move at "jerk" speed and then accelerates from there?

That's a good idea, with only a few metal parts this late could be a reliable tool. Even our printers aren't all plastic. If the chuck and the gears were in metal that would probably do it. I'm gonna have to build it.

Yep but you cant just use a PC supply just like that, you need to short some pins so it will start and sometimes you need to introduce a load so the voltage will be stable. If you have the money get a nice LED power supply from ebay. If you want it faster I have also seen them on Amazon but they cost a bit more.
A 12volt 30a supply should be able to supply both your printer and the heat bed.

Beside those "hair" all over, those are very nice prints.
Try to use a stiff brush to clean most of the hair and then using a blow torch go over all the remaining hair "VERY QUICKLY" it should take care of it.
I imagine you could also try a very high grit sand paper (800 and up) high enough not to scar the plastic and a quick rub all over would take care of the hair without affecting the surfac

Thank you I will try that.
If anyone else drops by, could someone explain to me what the acceleration and jerk settings do exactly?
Tried to find some kind of marlin fw manual but wasnt lucky.

Hi,
My printer used to work well but since I added a peice glass on top of my dibond printbed I sometimes have a layer shift on the Y axis, usualy in the middle of the print. Im guessing its because of the added weight.
What do I need to adjust exactly to fix this? speed, jerk, accel, stepper voltage??? im kinda lost.
I tried to fix it myself and I just made things worst, could use some pointe
