My wiring on the printer is a little untypical. It is done with unusual thick wires and they are very close to (sometimes even attached to) the iron metal rods and I did twist them with each other. I guess that this contributes to the effect. With thin flat-cable type wiring it does not happen (on both, my board and the mega8 on breadboard). So most people will not suffer from this effect.

After tidying up the wiring I had a strange CPU overheating problem with my printer electronics. The problem turned out to be a general one that is not related to a specific CPU or electronics board. Since others might be having the same problem, I thought that I would share the solution here.
In a nutshell: If your CPU tends to overheat when printing, consider using thinner(!) wires for the end

There is a list of all common firmware:
Any of them will do.
Teacup is very compact (less than 32kB, 16kB possible) and written in a very efficient and clean way, great for hacking.
Marlin is probably the most popular. It is extremly feature rich, but needs more resources. It supports even graphical user panels out-of-the box. It needs at least a 64kB CPU, for user panel support at least 128kB

We

I have added an update on the project status on my Ulule-page. Now the first test fixture for the final QA test is ready and I am still working on the needed test electronics and test firmware.
All boards will be thoroughly tested after production. Every single function and every single input or output connection will be tested. I will not ship chinese grab bags fresh from the reflow oven, but o

Damit

> 12MHz crystal for MCP2200 shows 5V on one pin and a noisy ~0V on the other
This all sounds very familiar. For some reason the PIC (the MCP2200 is in fact simply a pre-programmed PIC) shuts down itself into sleep mode after a failed USB communication attempt.
Before you desolder the crystal, you could check what happens while and shortly after the /Reset pin of the MPC2200 is held low. I h

I got a similar problem on my very first attemts to get the MCP2200 to work.
Finally, I found the lines D+ and D- where crossed between the MCP2200 and the USB port.
Hope that helps.

The idea of NC endstops is that a broken wire is detected immediately.
If a connection breaks using a NO endstop would cause the homing routine to smash the axis against the limit and never stop the motor.

Hi Epmac,
which Vref can you measure now with the broken poti still in place? You might be lucky that it broke in a position that it is possible to simply add a resistor in parallel to the poti as a kind of one-time-setting. Of cause you can't adjust the value anymore, but as a workaround it might be easier than changing one of these SMT potis.

Hi Gordon,
I think your cut was the problem and you need to restore the solder bridge. That "resistor" that you cut free seems to be the capacitor C6, right next to R5. So it should be connected to VDD. Your bridge only reinforced an already existing connection.
This is the schematic of the original Pololu-driver:
Your modules seem to use the very same part numbering.
Hope that helps,
Mich

From time to time NEMA17 stepper motors from Howard Ind. are sold very cheap at places like ebay or pollin.de for as low as 1 or 2€.
A few months ago I got a bunch of Howard 1-19-4200 motors at pollin.de and wondered if they can be used for building a Prusa.
The short answer is:
- For the Z-axis: yes, they are perfectly suitable.
- for X and Y it depends on your setup, but in any case you wil

I just finished the sample approval process for a newly designed graphical LCD panel and my version of the well-known Melzi controller board and I am very excited to be able to introduce my work to you. The first regular production run can start very soon now. To support the product introduction process I set up a campaign on Ulule.com (or here the german version).
